Eski Foca is a small fishing town, famous for its unspoiled atmosphere. There is a busy fishing fleet at the harbor that goes out to sea early in the morning and return in the afternoon. A fish market on the waterside is open every day selling the latest catch fresh off the boats.
Every Tuesday there is a big market in the streets of Foca. Here you can find fabulously fresh fruit and vegetables, village cheeses, fresh bread, jams and savories, herbs and spices. There is also a non-food market selling just about anything you might need (and more!)
The bus station is a short walk for departing on trips to Izmir and the main points of interest such as Pergamon, Ephesus etc. In summer there are also local boat tours and a ferry service to Lesvos (2 hrs).
The local boat tours usually start about 11 am and you return at 5pm. Launch on board is included and drinks (soft and alcoholic) are available (you can also take your own. Munch is usually grilled fish and salad, cooked on a barbecue hanging over the side of the boat. A great day out.
There is a town beach close by but if you want bigger beaches and facilities then take a Dolmus (small bus) 10 minutes up the coast where you can choose from a number of lovely beaches. The bus runs every 10-15 minutes during the summer months.

I am an architect by profession and I worked in my own practice in Ankara for most of my working life. When we moved to Foca I decided to make a lifestyle change and now I have my own crafts and cooking business to reflect two of my passions in life. I am married to Michael, an English man and adopted son of Turkey, and I have a 22 year old daughter, Defne, who the house is named after.
We have a passion for restoring old stone houses in Foca - we live in one too! We want to share our love of Foca with other people too.
The cottage has a lovely atmosphere - cosy, bright and private. It also has a terrace and a garden which can be hard to find in Foca. Also the cottage is ideally located in the old town and is close to the harbour, beaches and restaurants.
