LAST HOUSE ON POINT IN CASCO BAY

Special Offer! FAll Rental rates reduced $200/week September 1 - November 30

Freeport House Rental Photos and Description

4 bedrooms, 2 full baths, sleeps 8, fully equipped including linens.

Our home, the last house on a point of land, has been our peaceful summer home since 1986. Decks on both sides afford both an east and west view of the water. The rocky shoreline has a few sandy places for sunbathing and swimming depending on the changing of the tide. We enjoy harbor seals, blue herons, osprey, gulls, and we've even seen eagles!

The interior has a comfortable, open floor plan downstairs with full bath and laundry. There are four bright, cozy bedrooms and a full bath upstairs. Two of the bedrooms open directly onto the balcony which makes it possible to lie abed and view the water beyond.

In addition to the usual amenities, we leave the kitchen stocked with spices, condiments, baking ingredients, and canned goods with the understanding that whomever uses the last of anything replaces it for incoming guests. There is wireless internet and basic cable.

Our best recommendation is that folks keep coming back. Check out our guest reviews!

'Thea' has been our summer home since 1986. We are the last house on a point of land. Decks on both sides afford both an east and west view of the water. The rocky shoreline has a few sandy places for sunbathing and swimming depending on the changing of the tide. We enjoy ospreys, gulls, and we've even seen eagles feeding on the flats at low tide.

Our home is a modernized Cape with a comfortable, open floor plan with a downstairs laundry and full bath and four compact bedrooms upstairs. Guestbook comments from the owner
British Guests wrote the following unsolicited note to us...

"WE have just returned from a holiday in the USA with our daughter and her family and were fortunate to spend a week in your home.

"This is really to thank you for providing such a well equipped rental home in an idyllic setting. We appreciated the effort you made to present your home with such complete provisioning was far beyond what would be found in most holiday homes.

"In the past 20 years or so we have spent many happy holidays in excellent accommodations but must say that your home has been best of all."

HOME AWAY FROM HOME

  • 5 of 5
Thea is different from all other rentals we have known. When you are there it feels like you are the luckiest people in the world to know the folks who own this place and call it their home. It feels like your home, too, as everything you could want to relax in comfort is there. At the same time, it takes you far away from your usual world, as Thea is perched on a tiny island at the edge of the sea! How fabulous to see ithe ocean all around you, all the time, out of every window, and to hear it lull you to sleep at night. We have been especially appreciative of the detailed guidebooks the owner's provde to answer every question you may have about the house and the many attractions in the vicinity. Every time we go back, the owners have added amenities and renovations - this time, WiFi and cable access for computers, new gas heating system, and an additional patio on the front so you can enjoy contemplating the sea from yet another direction! We've had great dinners with friends around the big table and quiet days of solitude, tourist days up and down the coast and quiet nights by the fireplace; canoeing around the islands and walking around the point. The creativity Flying Point Island inspires has been awesome: we write, we play instruments, we take photographs; we laugh, we sing, we dance. Bliss.

ONE OF THE BEST WE'VE EVER RENTED!

One of the Best we've ever rented!
  • 5 of 5
I and my young family stayed at Thea for 4 days over Memorial Day weekend. We had high expectations and upon leaving agreed that even those were far exceeded. For starters, we were greeted by a baby Harbor Seal on the rocks right outside of the house as soon as we arrived. Hitting the walking trial at the end of the point each day became ritual to see what wonders the ever changing tides revealed. The views from virtually every window in the house were magnificent. The home itself was a wonder as well. It was nicely appointed with nautical are geographical detail throughout. (and a fantastic collection of books!) We were surprised to find 4 bedrooms on the 2nd floor. It didn’t look possible form the outside! We really felt like we were staying in a friend’s cozy home vs. a rental property. Inside, there were games for the kids and adults alike. Outside our kids loved the buoy swings and the adults enjoyed playing croquet and cooking on the grille. The wood stove was utilized every evening as was thoroughly enjoyed as well. Our one hesitation about Thea was accessing the peninsula via the causeway. After 4 days of back and forth we can say it was a total breeze (and we drive a minivan!) and actually adds to what makes Thea very special. All of the great shopping outlets were minutes away as was Wolf’s Neck State Park where we took some easy hikes one day. In town, Jameson Tavern had great food and great service! I struggled with posting this review as we are afraid we would let more people know about this true gem and limit our future returns.

LITERALLY ON YOUR OWN LITTLE ISLAND

  • 5 of 5
Only one complaint; we didn't stay longer.

Outside: You are literally on your own island when the tide is in with only one neighbor to the right. Which means no passing cars so it is great for kids. My 3 year old daughter loved playing on the kids swing in the front of the house or taking the steps down to the beach in back of the house to look for shells when the tide was out. Enjoyed a lot of time on the back deck enjoying the beautiful view. Note: not pictured on the east deck: a swing for two! And one night we even got to enjoy a spectacular sunset right from our front door. New added bonus: a lower level deck by the water; where you can literally say you were sitting on the dock by the bay!

Inside: Every room has a view of the water include both bedrooms. I loved waking up one morning to see the sun shining right from our very own bed. The doors in the bedrooms even open up onto a balcony which would be great on a hot summer night. All the decor is very fitting for the house. If you forgot something, Thea is fully stocked with everything you could ever need. On cold nights you can enjoy relaxing by the wood stove. There was a flat screen tv in the living room but we never turned it on. House fit 2 couples and one child very comfortably and we still had plenty of room. My daughter picked the room with the bunk beds immediately which was great because it was attached to the guest bedroom so she would not disturb the other couple.

Close to ll bean, coach, ben and jerrys, wicked whoopie pies, gritty mcduffs, bow street market, and all the other shopping in Freeport which kept us occupied on a rainy day.

Owner was very accommodating and if unsure of anything everything is clearly listed in the home. The owner even calls upon arrival to just to make sure all is well. Defiantly would rent again; hopefully we will be back next year as would not rent anywhere else! Perfect Maine gateway Thea!

Owner's Response: We read this review with delight. Someone "gets it" about how beautiful our home is and many of the things that we love. We are also pleased to hear that these folks recognized that we try very hard to make their experience as pleasant as possible. We'll put a picture of the deck swing on the web site. We rebuilt the back this summer, and the seat last summer... the arms are not far behind...maybe we can get the grandchildren involved in helping.

GREAT FAMILY TRIP LOCATION!

  • 5 of 5
This is a welcoming home. We were a family of 6 adults and we never felt like we were cramped. We really were able to bond as a family.

The home was well stocked with games, puzzles and starter provisions! The tides were navigable and never an issue for us.

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful family home!

THE WAY LIFE SHOULD BE

  • 5 of 5
What a magical spot! I have been passing through Freeport all my life on the way to somewhere else in Maine. This year my family decided to explore this area that a dear family friend always loved. We explored the nearby park by bike, took long walks in the afternoon, shopped one day and took a short trip to Boothbay Harbor to visit our family and friends. This truly feels like home when you arrive and is equipped with everything you need to cook and relax. We were a little concerned about the tides and accessing the causeway, but if you plan carefully around high tide, you will be fine. We found we could not access the house one hour before or after high tide. We were cooking in so this did not impact our dinner plans, but something to keep in mind. The owner carefully answered all our questions before we arrived and called us at the house to see if we had any other questions. Thank you for a very memorable stay and we hope to stay again!

Close to Portland, Freeport shopping (home of LLBean), Bowdoin College, museums in Bath and Brunswick, and many state parks and beaches. Our home, almost surrounded by water and at the high tides with the new moon and the full moon, briefly becomes an island. Under most circumstances this does not impact your visit. Once in a while though you have to use our tide charts to plan when you will leave or return.
