PERFECT FOR FAMILY GETAWAY!

  • 5 of 5
My family of five stayed here for a week, and it was great for us. Sleeping accommodations suited us perfectly...three bedrooms with queen beds and two twin beds gave everyone plenty of room. The house was clean, private, and quiet and the location was nice; we were just down the street from a restaurant/lobster pound in one direction (ate there twice-yum!), and a nice little walk to the town center with bakery, ice cream and market in the other direction. Hosts provided lots of reading material on the local area, and kitchen was well equipped. Proximity to the shuttle was nice; one morning we scheduled a whale watching tour, so we caught an early bus down the street (closest place to catch the early ones) and didn't have to worry about parking all day in Bar Harbor. LOVED having a washer and dryer. It rained two of the days we were there, but everyone was perfectly content lounging around watching TV all day as the living area was comfy. Storage for bikes in the garage beneath the house. Highly recommend!

QUIET, PLENTY OF ROOM, AND GOOD LOCATION

  • 5 of 5
We stayed here with five people for five days. The property was clean, with a large central great room and three bedrooms. Very quiet during the day and night. You can walk to small stores and restaurants in Southwest Harbor in a few minutes, and the summer Island Express bus stops right in front of the house. The bus will get you to Bar Harbor or even spots along the Park Road in Acadia National Park with a transfer. Everything is on one level above a garage. The kitchen was well stocked with appliances and utensils. Eating out on the balcony was nice (although it rained almost every day we were there!). The owners were very helpful. The location is pretty central on the island, especially if you want to explore the western part of the island, like Ship Harbor or Bass Harbor, which are very worthwhile places to go. It's only a 20-minute drive to Bar Harbor. The furniture is a little old but still quite functional. The wireless Internet comes from the adjacent main house so can get a little spotty at times. I had to ask the owner to reset the wireless router to connect once but she was very accommodating. Overall this is a good value, perfect for six people including kids.

PERFECT PLACE TO ENJOY MT. DESERT

  • 5 of 5
The Harbor Boat House couldn't have been more perfect. Located on the 'quiet side' of the island we were a short drive to Bar Harbor with all the tourist attractions (shops, cruises, etc.), a five minute walk to the center of Southwest Harbor and close to Echo Lake for swimming. Southwest Harbor is a charming town with some great restaurants (Quietside Cafe for the best blueberry pie I ever had). We were there during the Flamingo Festival complete with local steel drum band. Who would have thought Caribbean music in Maine.

Kathleen and Paul were gracious hosts giving us advice on where to go and what to eat. Harbor Boat House is across the street from the free island shuttle and the ferry to the Cranberry Islands. The place was spotless when we arrived with a basket of home baked scones waiting for us. We sat out on the deck watching the fog roll in and out of the harbor.

I would highly recommend the Harbor Boat House for anyone wishing to enjoy a week or more on Mt. Desert Island.

WONDERFUL

  • 5 of 5
After a road trip from Wisconsin, what a treat to find this little slice of heaven. Nice bedrooms, everything we needed for meal prep, comfortable seating inside and out, quiet neighborhood but lots to do in a short distance, great view and super host & hostess. Looking forward to our opportunity to visit again!

GREAT PLACE, GREAT LOCATION.

  • 5 of 5
We came to get away from it all - to go hiking, kayaking, exploring and generally wind down in beautiful surroundings; and we did just that. The apartment was perfectly comfortable, exactly as described, and being on the quiet side of the island was a real bonus. After a busy day out it was really relaxing to come 'home' to the peace and tranquility of Southwest Harbor but still have the convenience of a number of restaurants and shops just up the road.

Would we stay here again? Most definitely.

PERFECT FAMILY GETAWAY

  • 5 of 5
We loved this property. It is very comfortable and well-laid out. It is also a very safe place for a family with a small child--it is easy to monitor a child's movements in the spacious main area, and the bedrooms and bathroom are easy to close off. We brought our 11 month old son, and our hosts thoughtfully provided a baby gate for the stairs. They also offered a portable crib, but we didn't need it. There were other thoughtful touches as well, like the inclusion of pasta and sauce in case guests don't have a chance to go grocery shopping right away, as well as bug repellent, laundry detergent, and binoculars! We very much enjoyed using the gas grill on the sun deck and we loved the view. The location is ideal, on the "quiet side" of MDI, an easy walk into town or to a nearby lobster pound. It is also right across the street from one of the Island Explorer bus stops (the free buses provided by the National Park Service). Drivers are provided ample parking, and the property is very close to the main road that gives access to the rest of the island and the mainland. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Mount Desert Island is home to beautiful Acadia National Park with its hiking trails, swimming and carriage trails for biking and horseback riding. Bar Harbor offers shops and restaurants, tours and boating, museums and art galleries. Southwest Harbor is a smaller and quieter version with all the conveniences but maintains the unique downeast quality people come to the island for.
