Q:     How can I create a secure password?

A:      Safe passwords

  • Use a combination of at least 6 to 8 letters, numbers or special characters.
  • Use words that cannot be found in the dictionary.

  Unsafe passwords

  • Do NOT use your name, your spouse’s name, your pet’s name, birthday, favorite food or any personal information that others can easily obtain.
  • Do NOT use words or phrases that relate to your vacation rental home.
  • Do NOT use a password that contains part of your email address.

Q:     What steps can I take to protect my password and account information?

A:    Whether you’re online or offline, care for your password as you would care for your key to your house or your wallet.  Here are some tips to keep your password and account, safe.

  • Create a more secure password by using a combination of letters and numbers.
  • Create a different password for each online account that you have. Avoid using the same password for your HomeAway account and other accounts (email, etc.)
  • Change your password often- at least every 30 to 60 days.
  • Keep your password secret- do not share it with others via email or the Internet.  HomeAway Customer Support or company employees will never ask you to provide your password via email.

Q:     What if I suspect my password was stolen?

A:    If you believe that someone has obtained your password, change it immediately and contact HomeAway Customer Support at 512-493-0382 (Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm CST).

Q:     What is phishing?  And what should I do if I receive a request via email for my HomeAway password?

A:  Phishing is an e-mail and Internet scam designed to steal your identity by requesting your username, password or credit card details.

Beware of fake emails and web sites.  They look very similar to the HomeAway website and emails and contain links to pages that request you sign-in and submit password or credit card information.  If you receive or suspect you have received an email, do not click any of the links or respond to it.   Please forward all suspicious emails and websites to spoof@homeaway.com.
