Fantastic home, wonderful owners!

5 of 5
We just returned from a month's stay at Mango's Beach House and we have only good things to say! From the first meeting with Luis and Claudia (and the great tasting dessert they brought us!) to the final goodbye to Misael, we had no complaints. That doesn't mean we didn't have little glitches, but they were all handled in a timely fashion and all went well. It was the perfect distance from town....we could walk the beach or the road and get our daily exercise.....and it was the perfect distance from town......we had peace and quiet! (except for a barking dog or two, but, oh well!) At one point, there were 8 of us and we had plenty of room. Loved the breezes we got from the gulf side! The house is very well appointed. Would definitely recommend to anyone and we hope to return! Thanks, Luis and Claudia! Misael too! Our 9 year old granddaughters loved being able to practice their Spanish with you!

Wonderful Home Base in Merida!

4 of 5
We just returned from an amazing two weeks in Merida based at Casa Del Sol. We absolutely loved Merida and our wonderful home there. Debora and David, the property managers, were extremely friendly and accommodating and were very responsive to any inquiries and needs (extra hangars, etc.). About the neighborhood - the house is a wonderful old colonial on a relatively quiet street about 10 minutes walk to the Grand Plaza, a five minute walk to the English Library or LA 68 for morning yoga with Raul, and a one minute walk to Dona Tere's amazing Cocina Economica on Calle 47, where I would have eaten every single meal (lunch at least) while there if my traveling companions would have let me. Two doors down is a little tienda, the owners of which were extremely accommodating, even lending me a squeezer to juice limes one evening. The neighbors across the street were super friendly and knowledgeable about the area and neighborhood - letting us know about a cenote located in the school down the street. Two Cantina's - one at each end of the block - were more than happy to make beer deliveries. It's a very easy walk to the Paseo de Mantejo, and if you are there on a Sunday, don't miss the opportunity to rent bikes! About the house itself - it's an incredible remodel - I went on two house tours and Casa Del Sol held up well in comparison. We were five in the house and had lots of room to spread out, and the big dining room table in the outside dining room was a great place for us to gather round with neighbors and new friends. The fountain was a nice touch, really lovely to hear the sound of the tinkling water especially in the evening. Couple of drawbacks were that the pool does not really get any direct sunlight, but you can catch some sun on the upstairs patio and also in the upstairs shower, which opens to a small private graveled courtyard. The other drawback was that hot water was at a minimum. Neither of which would keep me from staying at the house again. Lastly, Merida has mosquitoes...plan accordingly. The house has a wonderful vibe to it, as does all of this magical city. I am confident that you would enjoy your stay at Casa Del Sol. We are already looking forward to our return.

Gorgeous Home... An Oasis!

5 of 5
We had the pleasure of staying in this home for 10 days, and it was an incredible experience. The home is absolutely beautiful – the photos represent the house very well, but honestly don’t do justice to the whole vibe of the place and how tranquil and lovely it is. The house was very well cared for, clean, and well stocked (we loved cooking in that beautiful kitchen!), and had nice quality linens and bedding. Tracy gave us great information to help us with our stay, and the property manager met us promptly to give us the keys and show us through the house when we arrived (even though it was nearly 10pm). They even helped us find local (English speaking) Chiropractors and Massage Therapists when my husband’s back went out. I can’t say enough good things about this place - it was so nice to be there lounging around we had to force ourselves to leave and go out sight-seeing! It was also great to be tucked in the neighborhood and experience what it’s like to live there – we set out each day to walk the block or two around the corner to the Chen Bech market for produce, or one of the tortillerias just beyond. (Also, very tasty salbutes and panuches from a vendor that opens up in the evenings outside the Chen Bech market.) It’s a short walk to the town square, just about a mile, and we found some great restaurants. Our favorites were Oliva Kitchen and Bar (Italian), a tiny place tucked on a quiet corner with amazing housemade pastas, and Apoala (located in the busier Parque Santa Lucia) had some of the best regional food; the steaks were spectacular and I loved the fried squash blossom appetizer! La Negrita was our favorite bar for afternoon stops; a happening spot with great music , a nice mix of locals and a few tourists here and there. Again, all about a mile walk from the house, and very safe. On the nights we were tired of being on our feet it was easy and inexpensive to grab a cab back to the house. Despite all the lounging at the house, we did manage to zip out to Progresso Beach for a day. It’s an easy bus ride, but we ended up just jumping in a cab which cost about $20 USD each way. It was a fun little beach town, and there is a corner joint with some of the best rotisserie chicken I’ve ever had about 3-4 blocks due south of the beach on the main drag heading back to Merida. This is one of the best I’ve ever taken; I rarely want to visit the same place twice – but we will make a point to come back here to this house every year. Enjoy!
