Wonderful Home Base in Merida!

4 of 5
We just returned from an amazing two weeks in Merida based at Casa Del Sol. We absolutely loved Merida and our wonderful home there. Debora and David, the property managers, were extremely friendly and accommodating and were very responsive to any inquiries and needs (extra hangars, etc.). About the neighborhood - the house is a wonderful old colonial on a relatively quiet street about 10 minutes walk to the Grand Plaza, a five minute walk to the English Library or LA 68 for morning yoga with Raul, and a one minute walk to Dona Tere's amazing Cocina Economica on Calle 47, where I would have eaten every single meal (lunch at least) while there if my traveling companions would have let me. Two doors down is a little tienda, the owners of which were extremely accommodating, even lending me a squeezer to juice limes one evening. The neighbors across the street were super friendly and knowledgeable about the area and neighborhood - letting us know about a cenote located in the school down the street. Two Cantina's - one at each end of the block - were more than happy to make beer deliveries. It's a very easy walk to the Paseo de Mantejo, and if you are there on a Sunday, don't miss the opportunity to rent bikes! About the house itself - it's an incredible remodel - I went on two house tours and Casa Del Sol held up well in comparison. We were five in the house and had lots of room to spread out, and the big dining room table in the outside dining room was a great place for us to gather round with neighbors and new friends. The fountain was a nice touch, really lovely to hear the sound of the tinkling water especially in the evening. Couple of drawbacks were that the pool does not really get any direct sunlight, but you can catch some sun on the upstairs patio and also in the upstairs shower, which opens to a small private graveled courtyard. The other drawback was that hot water was at a minimum. Neither of which would keep me from staying at the house again. Lastly, Merida has mosquitoes...plan accordingly. The house has a wonderful vibe to it, as does all of this magical city. I am confident that you would enjoy your stay at Casa Del Sol. We are already looking forward to our return.

Incredible villa, magnificient spot and sweet ...

5 of 5
Rating Details: I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. I was very happy with the location. The vacation rental was spotless. The property manager was very helpful. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Incredible villa, magnificient spot and sweet family! The spot was awesome and the villa seriously incredible. The principal thing we loved is the family who stay close to the villa (guardian). We've been fishing, eating and chilling with them. For the new year they invite us to their local celebration. We were people and we all love our trip... You can take the local bus to go in Progreso (30 minutes). maybe 15 minutes by car or taxi. The only thing is...there was only one towel per couple (we did'nt know it), the internet does'nt really work (I was expected...maybe better without internet anyway. There was not enough fourch and stuff like that in the kitchen... but wathever it was awesome! +++ to the Osmaldo (Messi) family +++ The Quebecers

We enjoyed our week!

4 of 5
Rating Details: I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. I was happy with the location. The vacation rental was very clean. The property manager was more than helpful. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We rented this property with another family and overall, we were happy with the experience. The house suited our needs very well and the outdoor area was beautiful(but bring bug spray!). The beach was lovely, but not great for swimming in January, with very high winds and waves. But luckily, the kids loved the pool. We did have concerns when we heard that five rental houses in the area had been broken into one night during our stay. This made us uncomfortable as there was not a safe in the house, and the two main bedroom sliding doors did not have working locks. The kitchen utensils and pots/pans need to be upgraded. We felt that for this size house, there was not enough to work with in the kitchen (no scissors, dull knives). But overall, we had a great week and would recommend the property.
