In mid-November, 2014, my husband and I took our two adult sons, their respective wife and girlfriend, and our 18 month-old granddaughter to Mexico to stay at Tres Defines for a week. We have travelled to the Maya Riviera for the past 12 years and like to try new accommodations. Tres Delfines did not disappoint! The food and drinks waiting for us when we arrived were a welcomed treat. The size of the house, with four bedrooms and three separate bathrooms offered every couple privacy. When we spent time altogether, the upstairs veranda and the living room were spacious enough.
Our housekeepers, Olivia and her husband Cristabol, were kind and helpful. They kept the house very clean. Most important to Olivia was that none of us got sick. She showed us where to shop and how to disinfect our fruits and vegetables. She made some wonderful meals as well. Several other people who oversee Tres Delfines introduced themselves on the first day. Some of them spoke fluent English. This was greatly appreciated on an evening when the water cistern ran dry. Not thirty minutes after a phone call to one of them, a truck arrived to replenish the tank; on a Sunday evening, no less! Also, Arul, the owner, was quick and most informative when responding to all our pre-vacation inquiries.
For the most part, we had no trouble with Internet access; the service was typical for the area. Beach access is rocky (wear water walkers) but the water is shallow for quite a ways out so swimming is fun and delightful. Though there is much to do in the area, our favorite activity was hanging out at our own beach and eating Olivia’s cooking at night.
Another reviewer objected to the fact that Olivia was in the house so much. She did, indeed, spend hours in the house every day, going about her business of cleaning and cooking. In addition to being a warm and lovely human being, she was unobtrusive and always accommodating. We welcomed her presence.
