I am German and have been living in Mexico for the past 14 years.
My family and friends from Germany asked me to organize a family getaway (and their standards were pretty high: close to the beach and town, close to grocery stores, things to do nearby, clean and safe housing). We were a total of 6 adults and 1 child. As soon as I spotted Casa Passalacqua, I knew that this would be the winner home! I sent around 1000 emails with questions to the Eleonore and at all times did she reply quickly and friendly clearing my doubts. Finally, we arrived to the home and I must say it is as the pictures show. I was blown away from the wonderful beach: white, soft sand with few people only and perfect to take a swim in the warm water (even during winter season!). We took the big umbrella from the house to the beach and were always in the shadow. My 2 year old son was able to run around in the 1st floor since there is lots of space for it. When you go upstairs there are some openings in the staircase where a 2-year-old could fit through. So, just be careful when going up and down the stairs with a small kid.
Carlos was very helpful at all times - just 1 phone call away he was always there for questions and concerns. Also, helped us to get the DVD going when some cables were disconnected.
The lady that comes and cleans the house is very nice and trustworthy. You can never actually tell if she is there because she is so quiet and private that you just notice when the sheets are new on your bed and everything is clean! No concern at all to leave all your belongings in the house while she is cleaning.
We had a great time going on tours that were organized by some of the many operators along 5th avenue. We got some good deals and got picked up from the Playacar Palace (6 minutes walk from the house). We enjoyed going to Cozumel on a snorkeling tour (walk to the ferry about 15mins), Isla Mujeres and Tulum and Coba. It is worth getting to know the ruins of the Mayan Culture - but also very crowded. You should maybe go there with a rental car and then get a tour guide in front of the entrance of each ruin.
We were lucky with only 1 rainy day, but we had fun doing some games, watching videos and playing with the kids. The house is so big, you don't actually feel all the people that are in the house.
I can highly recommend this villa for your family vacation if you are planning a beach getaway in Playa del Carmen and I will look forward to an opportunity to go there again
