What a wonderful place to stay

5 of 5
I had the pleasure to occupy both suites during my stay at Layla. Both are are a nice size and are the same with minimal aesthetic differences. I enjoyed the comfortable King Bed, lovely sheets, beautiful art works, and that FANTASTIC bathroom with a garden layout, Both had all the amenities I needed for a weeks stay. There is wifi, a place to concentrate, a kitchen unit for simple personal cooking needs. Just outside the door is the opportunity to lounge in The Palm Garden with its different tree variations and to interact with the wonderful parrots. At the entrance to Layla is the lovely La Duna cafe which serves great smoothies, breakfast, lunch, and other light fare. When that was closed, wonderful restaurants were a short walk away. Above La Duna there is a salon that can give you a great haircut, Massage and other services. The best part of my stay was Layla's Mayan Nature Experience Cenote Tour, which included Robin giving intriguing facts and ends with an authentic Mayan lunch at the home of a Mayan family. I look forward to my return which will have easy beach access and a lovely "Octopus's Garden" that the owner is building to attract fish and other sea life. Now that was really cool. All it really needed was a real octopus, but the lobsters were fun to observe.

Great economy option

4 of 5
Cozzy simple room with many extras, the best deal for the price I paid. Right on the beach, in the center of the turist zone, the condo has its own restaurant with very affordable prices. If you are looking for an economy clean place, this is it. Shower needs new fixtures.

Beautiful new apartments

5 of 5
Despite the lack of reviews at the time we booked, the apartments looked wonderful and we reserved a room hoping for the best. We were delighted to find the rooms looked exactly like the pictures. Clean, spacious, with high ceilings and full of light. LOCATION: La Casa del Mar is about 2 blocks south of the square (a quick 3-5 min walk). The location is very convenient for restaurants and cafes. Beach access is not right across the street but you can access the beach from the square which again is a quick 3-5 min walk. However, we preferred the beach access in the north end because there are fewer people. The closer you are to the square, the more crowded it gets especially on the weekends when both locals and tourists make use of the public beaches. La Casa del Mar offers free use of their bikes. They have about 4-5 bikes for guests so if you want to go further north, you can bike to the north side of the beaches in about 10-12 minutes. Walking would take 20 minutes. We had a car rental so we just used the car to drive 2 mins to the beach accesses in the north. There is also 4 car parking at La Casa del Mar. Also we were comfortable walking to and from La Casa Del Mar at night. THE BUILDING: It was a nice quiet building and they asked guests to not slam the entrance door when closing. You are given two keys, one to the entrance door and one to your room. Inside there's a dipping pool which we didn't use but other guests used intermittently. There are bikes, beach umbrellas and beach chairs offered for guests' use which was very useful (esp the umbrellas! The sun was brutal!). There are rooms on the ground floor which are good for those who can't walk up and down stairs too well. The stairways don't have railings so those with small children may want to be careful there. ROOMS: Everything looked brand new and the light from the glass doors leading to the balcony made the place look very inviting. You can leave the glass doors open (there are screens to keep bugs out) and the windows looking into the pool area courtyard open as well and get a nice cross breeze. However, they also had an A/C that worked very well. The hammock in the middle of the room was nice for a little nap but you can also unhook one end so that it doesn't hang across the room. Beds were comfy, bathroom clean and new. The TV had English channels, and the wifi was super fast. All in all we loved our stay and would not hesitate to come back to La Casa del Mar.
