As good as it looks! A fantastic location.

5 of 5
I almost thought it looked too good to be true when I was lucky enough to find Villa Escapar for a family reunion right after Christmas. It was just amazing. The location is to die for, the "secret" back road ( have Manuel call ahead) to SolimonBay reminded us of our Home, Greece, in the 1970s, when it was unspoiled by tourism, with one little shack on the beach for delicious fish tacos. That is a must! Our group ranged in age from 89 to 12 and everyone had a terrific time. Manuel and Luisa were like family and we hugged and kissed good bye sincerely sad to go. The home cooked meals were just that- homecooked and good. Tulum restauants were great, don't miss Hartwood and Posada Margarita. The owner is very reasonable and helpful and I already have my deposit back and it hasn't been thirty days. There is something for everyone at the villa and nearby. We brought our own paddleboards and kayaks and had a blast. Oh- and one minor medical emergency worked out absolutely perfectly with the hospital in Tulum. Very professional and quick. I would go back tomorrow to VIlla Escapar. It really is as good as, if not better than, the photos.

Wonderful beach get-a-way

5 of 5
We had about 18 family members, with a wide range of ages and interests. The house and the beach were great! Many of us spent most of the time on the property and never had need of a thing, Those that ventured out found many great activities close by. The place was big enough that we were able to get away from each other when desired, even when the weather was bad. The food was great and the fact that none of us cooked or cleaned up was wonderful! The pool and pool area was like paradise. And I do not really like pools. The snorkeling just off the beach in the bay may not have been world class, but was wonderful for a bunch of folks from the mountains.

Relaxing Visit

5 of 5
This was our families first visit to the Akumal area and what a treat it was! Renting Villa Gauguin for the week was easy. The owner always got back to me quickly with answers to any questions I had. The owners directions from the airport seemed vague but steered us right to the front door without one wrong turn. Other family members, with the same set of directions, had more difficulty finding the house. Maybe landmarks along the way would have helped them. I know that the pouring down rain (luckily cleared up) certainly didn't help. We arrived to Villa Gauguin late, so the house was lit up and absolutely beautiful. The front door (I want one of these) is grandiose and says Welcome! One side of the house (ocean side) is virtually made of glass - the view doesn't get much better than this! The listing description is accurate. The house and grounds are impeccably cared for. Our family of 11 had plenty of room to spread out when we needed to, and just the right spaces to share. The children (ages 4, 10,11,12) had hrs of fun in the pool. The keepers of the house, Francisco and Gladys, are wonderful. They cooked quite a few meals for our family. Our favorite was a lobster dinner, which was way tastier than the lobster we tried at one of the high end restaurants in Akumal. Francisco does an excellent job on the grill and makes a perfect marguerita. They even made special food items a couple of times for my 4 year old daughter. Well worth the cost and we estimate that we saved money by dining in. What a bonus to our trip. And I must not forget to mention that Yal-Ku Lagoon and its plentiful beauty is right there. The lagoon is such a special place. We spent many hours snorkeling. It would have been nice to have access to paddle boards at the house. I asked Francisco if he knew where to rent them. Apparently, unavailable at any of the dive shops in Akumal. Francisco brought out a few blow up rafts for the kids to use in the pool. We enjoyed Que Onde (sp?) bar and restaurant. Friendly service, yummy ice cream, nachos, great drinks and ambiance, and we had a delicious dinner there on Christmas Eve. My favorite restaurant in Akumal and very convenient, since it is right across the road from Villa Gauguin. We did a paddle boarding/snorkeling visit to Casa Cenote with Extreme Control. Fun day and worth the $ if you also paddle out to the ocean reef. Akumal and Villa Gauguin are the perfect way to spend a relaxing vacation!! Gracias!!
