If you want it perfect, take this

5 of 5
If you want sun, beach, a good price, culture and relaxing, okay. Living in Germany, as we do, you can have this without travelling far away, there is the mediterranean sea and very much places offer that. I´m sure, there are a lot of places comparably in the US as well in Mexico. But - if you want it in a way, you will never forget, if you want a unbelievable beautiful designed house on a real property which is very, very big, making you feel a rock star and equipped with everything you need, which is clean, calm, safe and where you really have your own private beach only a few steps away from your terrace (yes there is a big pool too, filled with water cleaned several times during our 12-day-stay), sitting with candles and torches eating fresh fish and habaneros or anything you want, that you all can buy in the nearby fishing village Progreso, if you want to visit archeological sites without driving more than 15 Minutes, if you want to see flamingos, pelicans and watch hundreds of fireflys in the night (yes, we did!) and sleep deep while listening the waves - - - well, then book this house. You can phone the owner, if something is wrong (during the stay: One SMS, and next day a problem is solved), there was perfect communication and help through the paying process via paypal, we could reach the owner before, during and after on phone and email, all financial things went smooth. I would recommed to rent a car; you don´t need to drive long to get everything you want (two superstores, gas station 10 Minutes driving, Progreso with a very big marketplace where restaurants buy anything they need, banks, shops 15 Minutes), but you can´t do it by foot. All the pictures the owner shows are correct, there is no fake. It´s absolutely worth the price. ;-)

Wondeful and relaxing

4 of 5
My wife were looking for a very quiet and relaxing winter vacation. This house delivers just that! A lovely three-bedroom three-bath home (with actually another room and a bathroom under construction!) with its own fresh water pool directly on the beach. The master bedroom with a king-size bed has a balcony that overlooks both the pool and the ocean. The area is virtually all single homes (most quite nice) and in March (and apparently most of the winter) very few are occupied by their Mexican owners. They seem to think that 36 celsius (80+ Fahrenheit) is a bit cool for them. So the area is very quiet and not at all touristy. Groceries are easily obtained in Progreso(about a 23 km drive) and there are lots of inexpensive restaurants to choose from. A car is a definite necessity and some knowledge of Spanish would be very helpful as almost no one other than us "Gringo's" speaks English. The property caretaker and his family don't but the owner (Aida) does and is only a phone call away. She was not only very helpful but very honest returning cash to me when I inadvetently overpaid her for rent. If you are looking for quiet beach walks off the beaten path and away from tourists, give this one some serious thought!

excellent house

5 of 5
My friends and I rented this house for a week. We loved it, and knew instantly that we had made an excellent decision renting this house. Before we got there, Maria gave us excellent directions, information on the house, and was super pleasant to work with. Upon arrival, we found the house to be just as described: the pool was spotless, the beach was right there, and the house was clean, open, and very inviting. It was obvious that this is someone's house, not just a shell of a house only used for rentals. There are piles of beautiful seashells and artwork all over. Don Lupe, the groundskeeper, was a delight, and a highlight was him cracking open coconuts for us one day. There was tons of room for us to spread out, relax, and do nothing, which is exactly what we did for the first three or four days of our stay. The nearest town, Progreso, is laid back and not touristy (except for the occasional cruise ship that stops in town, but those folks are gone in a matter of hours). The malecon makes for nice strolling along the beach. There are great seafood restaurants, a nice grocery store, and an awesome market. We tried to get up early to hit the market for fresh fish, vegetables, flowers, etc. Being able to cook at the house was a definite plus, and the kitchen had everything we needed. The house is also close enough for other explorations. We hit a few Mayan ruins, cenotes, and Merida. Merida is a wonderful city and worth a visit or two. In fact, after our week at the house, we stayed in Merida for a couple of nights. After our trip, Maria was prompt in returning our deposit; my only regret is that I wasn't able to meet her during our vacation.
