Great house, location and owners

5 of 5
We rented Mango House for 33 days, there were 2 adults and a set of 10 month old twins. This house had more than enough space and would be great for a larger group. Owners Luis and Claudia were very gracious, met us in Merida to escort us to Mango house and were there to answer any questions we had as well as make arrangements (weekly house cleaner, translations, etc). Misael, the property caretaker, was a treat. He would check in every couple of days and had a great time visiting with the twins. His English is almost non existent as is our spanish but we made it work. Just a heads up, this is not the Cancun Hotel Zone. The house is on a great beach in Chicxulub, a small fishing village. If you want to experience the real Mexico and are not interested in gorging yourself at an all inclusive this is the place for you. We did have a rental vehicle and travelled a fair amount, Luis can provide some recommendations. Being more centrally located than Cancun we were able to visit many more sites (the twins limited the length of our drives each day) and find some gems. Hint: skip Chichen Itza and hit up Uxmal, trust me on this one. The house was great, location was great, weather was great, definitely recommended. The only issue we had is that some ants found their way into the house and we had to deal with them.

Amazing holiday,great Villa, great location

4 of 5
The moment we we're met in Merida by the owner Patricia we knew we were going to have a great holiday. Patricia stopped at Costco on our way to villa so we could pick up some groceries. We we're introduced to Gonzalo and Olivia the caretaker and his wife when we arrived. They were so friendly and helpful throughout our stay. For additional $ Olivia cooked an amazing meal for us and some friends and Gonzalo BBQ amazing fish. We chose this place over the one we had stayed at year before for its location, amenities, great outdoor furniture and space. Location was important to us as we did not want to rent a car,we wanted to be able to walk to restaurants and market and be close to local transportation. We got all of that at Villa Mercedes, we were only 6 blocks from village and 2 blocks to get bus into Progreso which only took 10 min. Chicxulub and Progreso our communities along the Gulf not touristy areas. This is the real Mexico. The people here are very friendly friendly and we felt very safe. Patricia bought 2 kajaks for the Villa which were great fun. You will find fishing boats close by which we we enjoyed what watching bringing in in their catches of grouper, snapper and sea bass. We were able to buy fish right from these boats. You can walk along the beach for miles. You will find some fishing boats in areas, areas where beach rocky and other areas where beach as eroded to make it narrow this just makes for an interesting walk. Villa Mercedes is very modern well furnished. The kitchen has everything you need. There are TVs in all the bedrooms as well as in the living room which are connected to satellite TV. TV has lots of English channels. We enjoyed the outdoor space with its nice furniture, bar area and pool. We are already looking forward to our return next year. Lynn & Rick, Bayfield, On, Can.

excellent house

5 of 5
My friends and I rented this house for a week. We loved it, and knew instantly that we had made an excellent decision renting this house. Before we got there, Maria gave us excellent directions, information on the house, and was super pleasant to work with. Upon arrival, we found the house to be just as described: the pool was spotless, the beach was right there, and the house was clean, open, and very inviting. It was obvious that this is someone's house, not just a shell of a house only used for rentals. There are piles of beautiful seashells and artwork all over. Don Lupe, the groundskeeper, was a delight, and a highlight was him cracking open coconuts for us one day. There was tons of room for us to spread out, relax, and do nothing, which is exactly what we did for the first three or four days of our stay. The nearest town, Progreso, is laid back and not touristy (except for the occasional cruise ship that stops in town, but those folks are gone in a matter of hours). The malecon makes for nice strolling along the beach. There are great seafood restaurants, a nice grocery store, and an awesome market. We tried to get up early to hit the market for fresh fish, vegetables, flowers, etc. Being able to cook at the house was a definite plus, and the kitchen had everything we needed. The house is also close enough for other explorations. We hit a few Mayan ruins, cenotes, and Merida. Merida is a wonderful city and worth a visit or two. In fact, after our week at the house, we stayed in Merida for a couple of nights. After our trip, Maria was prompt in returning our deposit; my only regret is that I wasn't able to meet her during our vacation.
