Loved staying here!!

Akumal is a wonderful place to visit no matter where you stay, but this place was FABULOUS! Beautiful view from anywhere in the condo, and especially from the small pool right outside the front door. You can walk right off the beach for great snorkeling (watch for the urchins though!). Half moon bay has none of the tour groups that flood the main Akumal Bay, allowing you to explore at your own pace without worrying about people. You could even swim on over to the fun and delicious beach bar La Buena Vida just across the bay. The place was super clean, thanks to the lovely staff that came every day! Beds were comfortable (even the futon!) and everything felt new and clean. We didn't cook much while we were there, but the kitchen was beautiful and had everything we needed. We also had lots of fun outings, thanks to great suggestions from the owners, including cenotes, restaurants, and other hidden gems. - Don't miss La Chiampanequa in nearby Tulum. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a quiet and relaxing retreat as a home base for their trip!

Beautiful and spotless

We Loved TAO and would highly recommend this apartment. We have been to the other properties at this resort and loved them all. They all have their nice little touches that make each one special. The TAO is definitely a step up. We bought all inclusive bracelets with the owner’s discount, which was great. The service the food at SIAN KAAN buffet which is the closest is the best and very well presented. The staff are amazing and treat you like royalty. If you are a beach person you would be better off staying at Tulum which however is less upscale then TAO and much less spacious. The efficient tram system makes the distance to the beach unimportant; unless you need an ocean view. Internet was free at TAO center (very fast and the closest to our apartment) and also at SIAN KAAN, but much slower. Certainly good enough to keep in touch with home. Buffet was very good.....we actually preferred it to the Maiko restaurant at SIAN KAAN. Alux was very good as well. There is a separate beach area with private bar for SIAN KAAN only, so we used it. The sand on the beach is outstanding with occasional rocks in the water so you may want to bring water shoes. There is a lot of surf and they have put in manmade rocks to help keep the waves down. Sian Ka'an has a private beach section with a full bar I heard that the service there was exceptional!

Just right for family of 4

4 of 5
We have been to the area several times and snorkeled at Half Moon Bay on a couple of occassions. So, we decided to stay there, this time with our two daughters (17,20). We usually look for functional, but economical and #8 fir the bill. It was very resonably priced, and modestedly furnished. Downsides were trouble with the satellite on the lower channels, and amount of hot water for showers. Nevertheless, the condo is strategically located in the center of the bay with beuatiful 3rd floor views, a small pool, and small sandy area with palapas to lay out. Although it was unusally windy, you can always grab a snorkel and head out to the calmest area of the bay to see coral, fish, even lobster, crab, squid, .... and turtles. Excursions 1. Aktun Chen - do the whole thing - cave tour, zipline, and cenote snorkeling. A bit pricy but well worth it. 2. Kal-ku lagoon - - easiest snorkeling ever, but stick to the left and go back to the south end. Lots of rock formations to swim through and fish to see. 3. Tulum ruins - worth it, but crowded. Get there early and go straight to the main entrance. Then, hire a guide who can get you in without waiting in line. Food We go to the big supermart in Tulum for supplies, so we can serveral meals for oureselves. But, we do like La Buena Vida and went to Tulum to eat a La Zebra and Zamas (two of our favorites).
