My 3 girlfriends and I rented this property for a week to celebrate our 5oth. The villa was beautiful and spacious - it can easily accomodate 8 guests or more. We loved the secluded, East End location. It is underdeveloped and undiscovered; it was fun exploring the hillsides in our rented Jeep. Ask the owners about the Duchess' Estate - you can't miss this property as you're walking or driving home.. I would definitely rent a car. The island is small and easy to navegate but public transport is not really an option.
Having said that, Helene and Martin were so gracious for picking us up at the airport . No sooner had they dropped off the first guest when they received the call from the second shift. They were so pleasant and helpful throughout our stay. The rum and fruit basket gift was a thoughtful touch.
The villa grounds were equally enchanting. They provided all sorts of flaura and fauna. Helene even gave us a demo on sunburn treatment, using an aloe vera plant from the garden. She cut, peeled and applied the natural skin soother to our fried backs and shoulders.. What a Godsend!
We ladies spent lots of time lounging- "clubbing" poolside with blended drinks and tunes from the radio. The pool is large and secluded - great for doing laps or just taking in the Caribbean views. Please apply sunscreen liberally!
My one and only one disappointment was with the water quality by the villa. There was a lot of algae and the conditions were not suitable for swimming. Further down by the Divi Resort the water was better but not great. Hence,, another reason for a car - a 10 minute ride in either direction will bring you to some great beaches.
Other activities/attractions worth investigating are the Day Sail to Buck Island. We booked ours through Big Beards - great time! A quick drive to Point Udall is a great foto op. Check out Cramer Park on your way to the landmark. There were lots of slanders relaxing at the picnic/beach grounds. All the restaurants were great. Try Leni's Mexican Cantini in Christiansted for a cheap, delicious meal. Just prepare yourself for outdoor, picnic tables and roaming rowdy roosters...and Leni (lol)! Another crowd pleaser was The Deep End at The Tamarind Reef. Bring your snorkeling equipment and towel. Pool and beach are available to all restaurant guests (ALL Day)! I'll let you discover your own favorites- there are certainly plenty available.
