This vacation spot is absolutely beautiful. My family had once had a connection to this property, and I can honestly say that staying in the refurbished house now is even more enjoyable than when I was young, and my six brothers and sisters and their families (20 plus of us) all fit comfortably when we stayed for a special night together at the end of June.
Here's an excerpt from a letter I wrote to the owners following our stay:
"I cannot even begin to tell you how much it meant to us all to be back in this house, and to see the bedrooms, 3rd floor, and playroom (and of course the tunnel!) again after all these years. A most fitting testimony was provided by my father’s 75 year old brother, who attended our reception with his wife, daughter, and 9 of his grandchildren. He said the tour of this home was the best part of our family reunion for him, and that the owners “have done an exquisite job restoring the house and grounds. It was more beautiful than it ever was.” I’d have to say that we all feel that way.
Thank you so much for memories that will last a lifetime."
This special house is perfect for a family reunion, a wedding, or any significant occasion that calls for a spacious landscaped setting with breathtaking views of Lake Michigan. The bedrooms and common spaces are all aesthetically pleasing and evocative of a long-gone era--when grand houses were built on high shorefront bluffs along The Great Lakes. Originally constructed in 1913, the house today is well managed by the owners and efficiently maintained (the entire house is immaculate) by a friendly and helpful staff who greeted us when we arrived . . . but then gave us the time and space we needed to host our reception and enjoy one another's company. I cannot recommend this "Family Friendly Mansion" highly enough.
