My husband and I were looking for a nice, quite place in the country, which was pet-friendly, where we could take our dogs so they could enjoy some wide open spaces to run and explore and we definitely found a gem in the Hill Country Haven. The farmhouse was adorable, comfortable, perfectly appointed, and beautifully maintained. The house is perched in the rolling hills and farmland...just beautiful! Once our city dogs got used to the sights and sounds of the countryside (mainly Amish Buggies and Horses and a HUGE un-fenced yard), they loved running around the neatly mowed grounds and taking hikes on the mowed trails behind the house. I loved sitting outside and listening to the birds and the breeze through the trees...it was so nice not even hearing the highway in the distance. Only the occasional car or Amish buggy/wagon would pass by. We didn't have cellphone service or WiFi at the house or even for miles around (we have AT&T), but that makes the Hill Country Haven all the more perfect...it was so nice "unplugging" for a couple of days.
The best part was meeting Denise and Loren and learning about the house and property. Unfortunately during our stay, we discovered that the refrigerator had gone out and Denise and Loren went all the way to Baraboo on the 4th of July to get a replacement! So not necessary, but greatly appreciated. While Loren installed the new fridge, it was great hearing stories about the house and family that have owned the farm for over a century.
I was really sad to come home today and I think our doggies were too. Thank you both so much for the wonderful hospitality and sharing your historic homestead with us! We can't wait to come back...we are already planning on trying to come back for at least 1 long weekend a year. Take care and we hope to see you again soon!
