A Great Time in Harpers Ferry

5 of 5
We wanted a weekend excursion for the whole family, including our five month old daughter and our dog. We are new to the East Coast, so we decided to explore Harpers Ferry and stay at the Riverview Cottage. What a great experience we had! The cottage itself is adorable and comfortable. My husband loved all the history books! Even though it was pretty warm and humid this weekend, the house stayed nice and cool thanks to all the trees. But what really is divine about this rental is the location. It's right at the heart of Harpers Ferry. We never had to drive, walking to meals, shops, and hikes. You can walk straight from the house to Jefferson Rock without even having to leave Church St. I also appreciated the owner, Gary. He answered all our questions and was easy going. We've stayed in some rentals with a long check out to-do list or random fees, but Gary doesn't do any of this. Traveling with an infant, we appreciated how laid back the process was, and if we come back to Harpers Ferry, we'll definitely stay here. One thing to note: if you are a light sleeper, know that trains pass through Harpers Ferry at night. It's loud throughout the whole town, but with the ear plugs (considerately placed by the bed, thank you!) and the fan on, I slept through the night just fine.

Keep Coming Back!

5 of 5
My husband and I have been vacationing on the Greenbrier River in Seebert for 30 years. We started in the campground at Watoga, and now we stay at The Guest Quarters or Jeff’s Place. Not because we are too old – we are just SPOILED! This year we stayed in the Guest Quarters in June and September and enjoyed every minute of each trip. I can’t wait to get back next summer. The Guest Quarters will not disappoint you. Its location can't be beat! It's clean and fully stocked with everything you need for a great vacation; and best of all, the owners are super friendly and helpful. They strive to make your getaway - YOUR getaway. Jonelle will gladly answer any questions that you have, and if you need anything during your stay, just let her know. The Guest Quarters has a covered porch with a view, a special “treehouse” over the river, a picnic table, Adirondack chairs, and a fire pit. There is a side yard for playing catch, and little kids could safely ride their bikes near the house. The master bedroom has a small sitting area with a television and views to the river and side yard. An added plus is the Direct TV for any sporting events you may wish to catch, and I do have to admit, I enjoy the WiFi. Cell phone service in the area is spotty or nonexistent (Verizon) so plan accordingly. This property is great for couples or families. Our vacations are purely designed to retreat, relax, and rejuvenate. So, the river, the trail, the mountain beauty, and the peacefulness are perfect for us. We like playing board games and cards, taking hikes, and biking the trail to Marlinton for lunch. My personal favorite is a BBQ sandwich and slice of peanut butter pie at the Greenbrier Grille. There are books and games to enjoy. Kids of all ages will enjoy the river for wading, swimming, minnow catching, rock stacking, rock skipping, tubing, canoeing, kayaking, and of course, fishing. Don’t forget your water shoes! My parents are responsible for my love of the area. It hasn’t mattered if I was 10, 21, 30, 42, or my last trip – my 50th birthday, there is always something fun to do. Using the Guest Quarters as “Home away from Home” makes the trip even better.
