Glen Acres - a wonderful place!

5 of 5
What a time we had! The house was clean and orderly upon our arrival. And the view? A delight to get up early and watch the sunrise coming up over the Seattle area - sunlight reflecting off the sound. The location was perfect for us: on the northern end of the island, equidistant between the outdoor family wedding site and the town center. The town is just 5 minutes away, filled with a number of restaurants and curio shops. The island folk are friendly and interesting as can be. The house is well off the main road, toward the end of a dead end street, so virtually no commotion to distract you. A perfect place to stay for a family gathering; great for a quiet stroll on the beach, or just gathering your thoughts watching the water traffic slip by. Highly recommended!

Lots of comfort and character in this sweet place!

We loved our time there! It was a perfect location for us. We were there to attend a wedding at Jesus Barn Farm, right down the road. The place had everything we needed from kitchen things to bath towels. We particularly enjoyed the books and board games. Cookie cutter places are not our style- so this spot was perfect for us. Lots of character! And a beautiful view of the mountain on a particularly clear morning. I loved the claw foot tub and the sunroom. And we all slept like babies both nights. Bret was personable and responsive (thank you so much!). We had a nice dinner at the Hardware Store, delicious pastries from Snapdragon, and found treasures at a couple places, one of which was the little red place with the Red Herring sign. I would definitely recommend this place to friends!

Tranquil, secluded, and thought-through getaway.

Dan's cottage near Vashon Island's Fern Cove estuary is a perfect place to drop totally (or just partially) off the grid, while traveling less than 10 miles from Seattle's city center. The steep, lengthy path from the road to the house sets the tone - it's an effort to get here, so why not stay for while - but once you take in the view of Colvos Passage during a summer sunset, you'll quit your whining and start unwinding. The house was in perfect order when I arrived and pre-trip communication with Dan was very thorough and speedy. All of the little things - cleaning supplies, bath towels, extra stocks of paper towels, toilet paper, and even a coffee French press - were well thought through and I didn't want for anything while there. He's also recently installed a cable modem, so you've got ridiculously fast wireless internet – if you want it. I didn't use the loft upstairs but it's a fun, cozy space and the master bed is super-comfortable. Even on the hottest summer days, the place cools off almost instantly once the sun is down - just crack a window or two. When the tide is out, walking the shore is a popular activity here, and if you bring a paddleboard or small water craft, the cove's waters are typically very calm. Lots of flowering plants. During my week stay, I had several regular hummingbird visitors hanging out on the guardrail wires on the deck. Herons, hawks, and a bald eagle or two completed the air show. I'd recommend without hesitation to anyone looking for an incredibly convenient escape from the city and who wants to explore the far out mystery that is Vashon Island from a sturdy, welcoming base.
