A WONDERFUL WEEK IN A NW PARADISE!

5 of 5
This house is just wonderful. Our family of four thoroughly enjoyed a beautiful and hot week on Vashon in a house which exceeded all of our expectations. It is spotlessly clean, sunny, bright and comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked and everything is brand new or perfectly vintage. Easy access to everything Vashon has to offer. I highly recommend this house to fellow Pirate Camp-ers, Seattle vacationers and everyone else. You will be so happy to land here.

BICYCLE IN THE TREE HOUSE WAS SO WONDERFUL!!

5 of 5
A beautiful view of Mount Rainer from the back porch, a perfect view of a nesting pair of Ospreys with a baby chick from the back yard, blackberry brambles, pear and apple trees, flowers abound, this is paradise. This is the childhood home of the boy, Don Puz who left his bicycle in the swampy woods which was ultimately swallowed by a fir tree (world famous story) and is now a short walk and interesting site to see. Vashon island is a truly wonderful place, a country paradise with hills for bicycling, a gorgeous view of Mt. Rainer, a beautiful old light house from the 1800's on a drift-wood beach, and some of the friendliest people you will ever meet. My wife, our little cavalier king Charles spaniel and myself enjoyed our visit to this house and island so very much. The home is spacious and you feel like you have gone to visit your grandmothers house in the country. Same old furniture, kitchen utensils, children's games in the closet. There is a gracious spirit about this house when you get to know the story of Mrs. Puz who lived here until 2012 when she passed just shy of 100 years old. Relics of her devout life such as icons on the porch, framed prayers in the kitchen and even the family bible are still there in the home...it feels like a family's home...not just another vacation rental. The master bed was king size and VERY comfortable with a mountain view out the end windows. Our only complaint was they need to improve the cradle for the hand held shower but a only minor complaint. Mornings we would go 1/4 mile down the road (walking distance easy) to the Vashon Island Roastery for perfect coffee and breakfast. This is the place where Stewart Brothers Coffee began better known to the world as SBC, Seattle's Best Coffee. The atmosphere is even better than the coffee. We enjoyed drives around the island where we found the old light house, Engels gas station which is locked in a 1951 time warp, a totem pole of old license plates in front of a house, a Harley rider yard art sculpture, small specialty farms and breathtaking views everywhere. The ferry rides to and from the island were beautiful and relaxing and it took us just about 40 minutes to go from our rental into Seattle. Downtown Vashon also had several good restaurants but my favorite food on this trip was ice cream with Mrs. Puz's blackberries picked in the back yard. If you understand the spirit of this home you will love it as much as we did. In 25 years of Seattle trips, this was the best ever

TRANQUIL, SECLUDED, AND THOUGHT-THROUGH GETAWAY.

5 of 5
Dan's cottage near Vashon Island's Fern Cove estuary is a perfect place to drop totally (or just partially) off the grid, while traveling less than 10 miles from Seattle's city center. The steep, lengthy path from the road to the house sets the tone - it's an effort to get here, so why not stay for while - but once you take in the view of Colvos Passage during a summer sunset, you'll quit your whining and start unwinding. The house was in perfect order when I arrived and pre-trip communication with Dan was very thorough and speedy. All of the little things - cleaning supplies, bath towels, extra stocks of paper towels, toilet paper, and even a coffee French press - were well thought through and I didn't want for anything while there. He's also recently installed a cable modem, so you've got ridiculously fast wireless internet – if you want it. I didn't use the loft upstairs but it's a fun, cozy space and the master bed is super-comfortable. Even on the hottest summer days, the place cools off almost instantly once the sun is down - just crack a window or two. When the tide is out, walking the shore is a popular activity here, and if you bring a paddleboard or small water craft, the cove's waters are typically very calm. Lots of flowering plants. During my week stay, I had several regular hummingbird visitors hanging out on the guardrail wires on the deck. Herons, hawks, and a bald eagle or two completed the air show. I'd recommend without hesitation to anyone looking for an incredibly convenient escape from the city and who wants to explore the far out mystery that is Vashon Island from a sturdy, welcoming base.
