Wonderful stay at SeaEscape

5 of 5
SeaEscape is an immaculate, well maintained home, even more charming than the photos. It is equipped with everything imaginable to prepare a family dinner or outdoor barbeque. Very comfortable furniture and beds. The location is lovely and peaceful. It's within a short two-block walk to the metro bus to take you to Seattle Center, Olympic Sculpture Park, Belltown, and Pike Place Market, with easy transfers to the bus to the Waterfront, Great Wheel, ferry terminal, Pioneer Square, etc. It even has a fireplace for those cold rainy Seattle days. The Owner and Caretaker provided contact information just in case we needed assistance, but everything worked perfectly and we did not need to call them. I would give it 10 stars if I could. We hope to return for future vacations.

~ a great family trip ~

5 of 5
We greatly enjoyed our 7-day stay at this Magnolia house. It was a perfect fit for our family of eight, which included a 6-yr old child. There was ample space to gather as a family and private spaces for each one to recharge for all the activities available in the area. We only cooked breakfast and brunch and the kitchen was fine for that. Discovery Park up the street was a real find. Restaurants in Ballard were plentiful, but we did not like that so many did not welcome children. For several of us, the dinner at The Walrus and the Carpenter was the highlight meal of the week. Opens at 4 and does not take reservations so you better be there in line early. For others, the relatively inexpensive lunch at Salumi in the Pioneer Square area was tops. The house was close to many of the activities on our ‘to-do’ list and traffic, which we heard was awful, was manageable. A day trip to Friday Harbor with a whale watching trip and sunset kayaking was a favorite activity. Although the logistics of moving eight people from the east coast to Seattle were not simple, the time spent together at this house was worth it.

Nice Home with a few shortcomings

4 of 5
The home is great, as most reviews have mentioned. It was comfortable and spacious for the 5 of us adults using all 3 bedrooms; and the 3 bathrooms were nice as well. I'm a former Seattle resident who has dealt with the headache of street parking, so was happy about the drive and garage. I know it said the drive was steep, but I hoped for the best. No such luck. My Prius wouldn't clear the curb/sidewalk, nor would our friend's Ford Fusion rental car. So we both had to park on the street. Yes, as others have said, we always found a place, but it's just a pain and sometimes you are nearly a block away. There were a number of things that could have been a little better in our collective opinions. There were no dish towels anywhere when we moved in (Seth did bring us some the next day). The recycle can was full to the brim when we got there, and trash pick-up wasn't until 5 days later. So our week's worth of bottles and cans would only fit after I stood on top of the trash can and jumped up and down a bunch of times to make a little room. Not ideal. The mirrors in all 3 bedrooms were not hung on the walls, but standing on the floors leaning against the walls. The toilet paper holder in the upstairs bathroom was broken. The curtain tie-back by the refrigerator was falling off. The freezer leaked a foot long puddle of water on the floor every day (Seth said he knew about it, but hadn't told us until we mentioned it). The light fixture in the upstairs stairwell was broken and not working. And the downstairs shades were loose on the wall, as well as see-through, so the people in the house behind could look right in. You had to change clothes in the dark or be an exhibitionist. Seth did stop by one day when we were out, with a handyman he said, but later left a message that the shades were even worse and not to touch them or they might fall off the wall. Ok, these are all small things that didn't ruin our visit. We had a great time, and the roof deck was a lot of fun to hang out on and enjoy the views. But at the cost of this home for a week, we felt that we shouldn't have to deal with numerous broken and inadequate little defects. Seth was very nice, and worked to fix some things for us, but others remained unfixed. I would give the house 5 stars for location and the roof deck, but maybe 3 stars for the drive situation, trash can problem, and things that should have been fixed. Would stay again if I had a high clearance car and the house had a few improvements.
