Unplug and relax!

5 of 5
Looking for your “typical” vacation rental on the Hood Canal, the Historic Balch Retreat is not it. If you want to feel as though your best friends have lent you their personal water front residence, complete with warm furnishings, antiques, a well-equipped kitchen, and comfortable beds, then you have come to the right place. From the moment you step through the front door you feel as though you have stepped back in time to the days when life on the Hood Canal was simpler and more relaxed. The charm of this 1920’s waterfront home is carried throughout in even the smallest of details. This home is all about relaxation and detaching yourself from the stress of everyday life. Unplug and curl up with a good book. Marvel at the abundance of wildlife right outside your back door. Seals, sea lions, Eagles, and varieties of sea birds too numerous to list. Even the occasional raccoon family scampering through the yard. To get more up close & personal with nature, hop in the canoe and take a leisurely trip along the banks. If you're lucky you will have plenty of curious seals to escort you. After canoeing, take a walk along the banks and look for shells. Don’t forget your camera! After sunset, light a fire in the fire pit and make s’mores. Your kids will remember this far longer than what was on the TV that night. A few recommendations to make your stay a memorable experience. • Take your groceries. The local store is not well stocked. It is okay if you run out of milk, but beyond that, the nearest store is 23 miles away. • This is the Pacific Northwest. If you want sandy beaches, go to California. • Despite what yo may think, the owners cannot arrange for elk or deer, or other wild animals to parade past your door as you eat your breakfast. They are wild and come and go as they please. • While the house does sleep 9, 6 might be more comfortable. The dining table seats 6. The living room also seats 6, comfortably, with possibly room for two more for short periods. Don't overcrowd the place, especially in the winter months, too many people could impact your relaxation time. We actually had the pleasure of meeting Tori & Wade and we can tell you that you won't meet two nicer people who truly care about their guests. In nearly every way the Historic Balch Retreat exceeded our expectations. Do not pass up the Historic Balch Retreat. Just please save us a long weekend here and there. We will return.

Wonderful experience

5 of 5
This was our first experience with StayAlfred and it was definitely a pleasant one. Being timeshare owners, we always try to look for full apartment units for our vacation stays if we can't find a timeshare where we're traveling. I was so pleased to find this unit in Bellevue, WA, just a block away from our daughter, son-in-law and grandson's apartment. The unit was in a secure building (a plus), very clean and fully furnished with a well stocked kitchen (no, not with food!). Bellevue is a great area - a 20 minute drive northeast of Seattle. Very walkable, lots of restaurants, coffee shops, fitness centers (one of which is right in the building we stayed in) and shopping. I highly recommend this location of StayAlfred. The booking process is easy and all instructions are exact. Also, price point is excellent. Would definitely book another stay with StayAlfred.

Soaring Eagle

5 of 5
We had very high expectations about the lodge based on all of the previous reviews and I have to say all of the positive reviews were right on. The house is exceptional in every detail. Outstanding and quite location, highest quality furnishings, 3 awesome gas fired wood fireplaces, fantastic outdoor hot tub, chef's quality kitchen, water views and two eagles !! The home was clean and very well maintained. We spent two nights here with our son and his fiancé and then two more nights at the Fairmont Olympia in Seattle and honestly, I enjoyed the Soaring Eagle so much more! Mary was easy to work with and we only saw the onsite caretaker when we first arrived and when we left. The first night we picked up steaks in Oak Harbor and cooked out on the patio. Day two, we took the ferry over to Port Townsend where there are many fun places to eat and drink. We did not spend much time in Oak Harbor. The lodge is perfect for family gatherings and I wouldn't hesitate to visit again. Thank you Mary, Tim M
