Great House at a Great Vacation Destination

5 of 5
This is a great place to stay on Orcas Island, which is a great place to vacation. We envisioned the house in a wooded, somewhat isolated setting, but it's actually in a residential area in Eastsound. That turned out to be fine, since it's handy to be a very close walk to "downtown." The house does indeed sleep six without any problems. Two bedrooms upstairs share a large bathroom, and the bedroom downstairs has a small private bath. The house is very attractive and has pretty much everything you'll need. I don't believe that the listing indicates that it has a washer and dryer, but it does. As discussed in a previous review, although the house isn't on the water, the bay can be seen from the front porch and patio. And it's a three minute walk to be right there. The requirement of paying for trash is a bit frustrating, but I assume it's a reasonable attempt to keep that under control on this small island. I took our trash and recycling to the Orcas transfer station (i.e. dump) on the day we left; the charge was $13. They take credit cards. You can apparently have the the realtor deal with it for an extra charge. It is close to the tiny Orcas airport, but we actually enjoyed watching the small private planes coming in and taking off. Orcas Island is beautiful, and Eastsound is charming. My wife and I were there with our two adult children and their partners. There's plenty to do (kayaking, whale watching, sailing (recommend Kruger Escapes)) and super fresh seafood to cook in the well equipped kitchen (recommend Buck Bay Shellfish Farm). You can also just enjoy the mild summer temps on the porch or patio.
