We stayed in Dupont Retreat for 5 nights. It is very large & gave my family lots of space to spread out. The kitchen was well-stocked with utensils, plates, cups, pots & pans. The beds, linens, & pillows are extremely comfortable, and there were plenty of soft, fluffy towels. It was a huge plus to have laundry facilities in the apartment; I appreciated that there was “Free & Clear” detergent provided, since I am allergic to heavy fragrances. Though the bathroom is small, the shower was big & had great water pressure.
Kevin was very easy to get in touch with before & after our arrival in DC. The WiFi router wasn’t working properly when we got to the apartment; Kevin responded to my voice mail quickly, and was at the building within the hour to reboot it. (Once reset, the WiFi worked well during our stay.)
The apartment is located just a few blocks from the Metro. (Cut through the small alley next to Front Page to get from New Hampshire Ave to the station - it shaves a couple minutes off the walk!) There are lots of restaurants in the area; try Zorba’s Greek on 20th. We bought groceries at Whole Foods, which is about 7 blocks south on “I”– in addition to the staples, they have a great salad /hot-food bar.
Though we were very impressed with the apartment & would stay definitely stay there again, the one important thing potential renters should know about is that it can be very noisy, depending on who is upstairs & what is happening in the neighborhood.
There was a family in the apartment right above us – they had a couple children who got up very early. There is some sound-proofing between the units - we didn’t really hear voices or intrusively loud adult footsteps - but we could definitely hear the kids repeatedly running from one end of the apartment to the other & scraping chairs across the floor. There is a building being renovated two houses down, so in addition to being woken up at dawn by the kids upstairs, we also got to be serenaded with the sound of hammers starting at 7AM. The third noise issue is the fact that the water heater & furnace for the upper units are in the basement, right next to the back bedroom. Even with the bedroom door closed, you could hear the furnace cycling on & off all night and the water heater refilling. (If you are a light sleeper, choose the front bedroom; it seems to be much quieter.)
Despite the noise issues, we were very happy overall with our stay at “Dupont Retreat” and would recommend it to other families
