We choose DC as the halfway point for our Russian Christmas family reunion of contingents from NC and NYC. What a lovely historic neighborhood! Le Droit
park is beautiful. Christmas decorations and lights were still up in the Circle and as we arrived it began to snow, heightening the charm! It was as in a Victorian postcard scene. However, we had no trouble in the storm (several inches of snow, which we loved; we are snow deprived in NC) and cabs arrived within 5-10 minutes of calling for them.
Austin was so easy to work with and very amenable. The house was great and all seven of us were very comfortable. Everything was as Austin said it be and the kitchen is amazing! We had everything to prepare gourmet meals, and I do mean every appliance and tool! The dining room is large and the table accommodates a big group. We also ordered in Thai food the first night which arrived quickly and was very good. There are menus for local restaurants in a kitchen drawer (very thoughtful!) We experienced no problems during our stay what so ever. what so ever. the house was spotless and commodious. The NY group was very impressed with the space and laundry facilities! Sightseeing was easy to all major points of interest. The metro is close and easy to navigate. We had one car and the private parking space on the property is a wonderful convenience (although if you are able bodied you don't need a car). Neighbors and area merchants we nothing but helpful, friendly and polite. One resident stopped to inquire if I needed assistance with helping my disabled husband into the car during the snowstorm!
Our only regret was that we didn't have more time to explore the neighborhood so we hope to stay again in the near future.
Also, there is a mall with a Giant Foods grocery (impressive produce), a TJ Maxx and a Home Depot just 1.5 miles from the house, right off Rhode Island Ave., for those wishing to do a big shopping. Some of us shopped at the Harris Teeter and the Mall in Adams Morgan which has a Target and other stores.
Bottom line: great house, great neighborhood, fabulous city!
One small suggestion: a few more comfortable chairs that could be moved to the living room for large group hanging out.
We hope to be back in the near future. Thanks, Austin
