So perfect, we made a day just to stay in and enjoy!

5 of 5
This traditional cottage by the bay was perfect for our family of 4. Everything we needed was there, and buying the few supplies to restock what we used was more than fair. It was the perfect distance for my 6 & 7 yr old to walk to the beach, park, and public pier. It was also just fine for my mother who has a hard time standing/walking for long times or distances. I thought the signs telling us where things are and some of the quirks of the house were cute and well done so as to be helpful, and the neighbors were wonderful pseudo-hosts, helping us with directions, WD-40, nut crackers, to everything in between. Janice was always a phone call away if needed, and I never felt as if we were a bother or that she wasn't doing her very best to help us. The house was so nice, that we skipped going into a nearby town as planned and stayed in, made a seafood chowder using leftover crab boil from the night before in the provided crock-pot, hung out on the beach, fished, played pool, and sat back in the hot tub. It may have just been the best day of our vacation. You will not be disappointed in picking this cottage. We did see some bugs in the house, but that is just what is expected in a house by the beach. It was a very clean place, and a true joy to spend the week in. Thank you, Janice!

So close to the beach/restaurants. Great owner.

If you're looking for a place walking distance from the beach and at the center of the boardwalk, look no further. We came to Virginia Beach to spend our days relaxing, so it was nice to be able to wake up early, have coffee on the patio and then walk two blocks and set up on the beach. The rooms are very spacious, and the new renovations are nice. The air-conditioner keeps the whole house super comfortable. 20th street is right at the center of the boardwalk which is nice because many of the free family activities are easily accessible. There are also many good restaurants within walking distance. Added bonus: the owner is very accommodating and responded to us quickly and professionally.

Good property just needed some minor attention

4 of 5
First let me cover the basics and the important things about this property. It is as advertised. It is 2 blocks from the beach. The walk wasn’t bad either and we felt safe making the walk with our family. The area seemed like a decent neighborhood. We had no issues at night with loud noises or people partying and so on. Parking at the condo proved to be a little challenging at times as you have to share the drive with whoever is renting the front portion of the house\condo. We had our minivan and the other renters had a minivan, it was tight but it fit and we made it all work. As I mentioned the rental is actually a house that has had a section added on in the back (where we stayed) and the front portion of the house is another rental piece presumably owned by the same person. The owner asked us to contact him when we were an hour away so he could meet us there. We showed up at the rental and he was there within minutes of our arrival. The owner gave us a tour of the place which was nice and told us to contact him if we needed anything. He also allowed us to add an additional person to the stay at last minute. He didn’t fuss about it and told us he would hold out money from our deposit for the extra person. We agreed and were very happy there was no hassle. The condo was clean which I was surprised. I know every rental says their rental is “clean” or “the cleanest” but this one can actually advertise this. The bathroom was clean (big issue with me if it’s not). The owner provided clean sheets for the beds. The overall condition of the condo was good and as advertised. We did have some issues however. The biggest being the pull out bed was broke. We pulled it out of the couch and the portion of the bed where your feet would rest was bent\broke causing the bed to be inclined and unsupported at that end. My wife and I slept on it for 1 night and knew that we wouldn’t be able to sleep the entire time like that. Since we had talked about getting an air mattress for our home back in Ohio we decided to purchase one and use that instead of the pull out bed. I want to give the owner the benefit of the doubt that it recently broke and he wasn’t aware of the issue. We did notify him of it though so hopefully he will get it replaced. All the other issues were minor. Like purchasing some household items we thought were going to be provided. Some items were present but not enough remaining like the hand soap and toilet paper.
