Wonderful cabin! Beautiful views!

5 of 5
Our family of 4 stayed at 'The Ridge' for an extended weekend in July of 2014 and had a wonderful experience! Very peaceful and relaxing. The cabin is absolutely charming and I totally agree with the other comments about how clean it was. We were 10 minutes to Lexington with great restaurants and great historical venues. It was an easy drive to Natural Bridge and the Blue Ridge Parkway. The owners, John and Sandy, treated us like family!!! We would definitely stay again.

City Girl gone Country!

5 of 5
What a wonderful escape from the city. Although close and easy acess from main highway, many back roads to roam to cut over to Middleburg, Paris, Shenandoah Valley, gorgeous Orchards and vinyards/wineries within just moments from home. Oh, and the home is great! Clean, easy, central AC, and best if all is the lovely and gracious host who lives nearby and and is amazingly helpful at helping guide you to your hearts desire. A walking travel guide to offer best kept secrets as well as major attractions. Would recommend highly for any size group. Markham is still a charming undeveloped historic village that has barely changed in over 100 years. If you are a train aficionado, Markham still has it's original train station although no longer for passengers, but you can wave at what looks like the cannonball express! And feel like you are living in mix of "Green Acres" & "petticoat Junction"...maybe even Beverly Hillbillies;) It's definitely a destination to explore from or just hang out with friends. Next time I'll get over to the local 'Dude Ranch' at Fairfield Farm in Hume, the original family farm of The Marriott Family, back in the day, where they hosted dignitaries including President Ronald Reagan, and the like. Highly recommend this great escape only 1 hour to Georgetown, DC!

Great, but a couple of small issues.

4 of 5
We enjoyed this house very much! Great communication from the managers, good quiet spot, close to a ton of things. So many good things that it was nearly perfect, but for space I'll point out a few things I'd change or recommend paying attention to: -The house needs to have several things added to it, or adjusted. The kitchen needs to be gone through and have things added in. On the large end, the fridge is way, way too small for the amount of people that a house this size is designed for. On the small end, there needs to be more dishes and utensils. We found 1 sharp knife, 1 vegetable knife, and barely any pan style cooking sheets, and not enough plates/etc. I'm sure this is due to vacationers ruining them, but it's an oversight in a rental this pricey. Late at night our first night we had to go out and try to track down knives and plates. We left behind a meat thermometer as well for the future renters to use, something like that is important! -On the same topic as adding to the house, please make sure to bring a plunger! When we arrived the middle floor bathroom was simply flushed to make sure everything was in working condition, and it clogged. Rather then bother or wait for maintennence, we went and got a plunger. A 5$ item, but incredibly strange to not already have one there. -The TVs need to be upsized. The one in the ground floor living room is strangely positioned and wasn't overly comfortable to watch from the distance or viewing angles. The one in the game room, same thing. Too small, too quiet to be of any use while anyone is playing pool. I'd almost recommend weather proofing the pool table and placing it outside on the covered in porch. -A lot of the outlets need to be looked at. In the Master's bedroom we had a majority of the outlets not functional, in the ground floor living room, the overhead light didn't work. Was very annoying trying to find a working plug to charge phones. As for other things, the ground floor couches are amazing comfortable, the dining room is nice, the outside chairs are great! I couldn't tell you about the grill as we didn't use it. For food shopping there's a grocery store within 8 minutes of the house, which is something many vacation sites neglect to have nearby. I recommend the ziplining and pool, but the gokarts (electric, SLOW) and minigolf aren't worth the trip. Overall a nice property, will potentially be back.
