Fun for the Whole Family!

5 of 5
First, I must say what a pleasure it was to work with the owner. He was very responsive and provided many great tips for our stay in the area. It was tough getting my large family to commit to vacation dates so his patience was much appreciated. This riverfront property is beautiful and the cabin is really quite lovely. We made some delicious meals in the well appointed kitchen and it was nice to have a sitting area on the covered porch for eating and playing games. We all really enjoyed fishing (although we only reeled in a handful of trout), kayaking, rafting, canoeing, playing corn hole and just lounging in the hammock or swing by the river. One afternoon, we loaded our cars and spent the day at Lake Moomaw. It is only about 20 minutes from the cabin and there is a great beach area with many trails for hiking. We also enjoyed running and riding our bikes along the Jackson River Trail. The trailhead is just a few miles down the road. The outdoor shower was a great way to rinse off after spending the day on the river. The teepee is a site to behold so you really must check it out. All in all we had a relaxing and memorable family vacation on the Jackson River!

Perfect Mountain Retreat!

5 of 5
My family and I stayed two nights at the Gooney Lodge but could have easily stayed more! The children on our trip (ages 6 months - 6 years) loved playing in the creek, swinging, and all of the games/puzzles in the home- I don't think any of them noticed there wasn't a TV! The lodge is perfect for multiple families/guests as the kitchen is a great size and there are multiple beds in almost every room. I was impressed by all the thoughtful touches of the home (ceiling fans on the huge porch, multiple fans in each room, large dining table with plenty of chairs). I am sure my family will be back again next summer!

Simple pleasures

5 of 5
My step son and I had a great "guys weekend" at the White Oak Canyon Cottage. Furnishings were sparse but comfortable, it had everything you needed but food. The owners put together a great cottage guide that provides information on the local attractions, trail guides, and local fishing spots and regulations. The area is wonderful! Great hiking trails with varying degrees of difficulty, native brook trout fishing, and the comfort of the national park. On one day we saw 7 black bears, two right near the cottage. That was awesome! Very quiet nights in the cooler mountain air made for good sleeping. I would recommend to any party up to 4, provided they were OK with one queen bed and a double bunk bed.
