COZY LITTLE RIVER-FRONT RETREAT...

5 of 5
We had a wonderful time at this cabin - the location is serene, and exactly what we were looking for. If you plan on staying here, though, make sure to bring groceries and any other supplies you require - the grocery store is quite a distance away, and you won't feel like leaving once you arrive! ;)

WONDERFUL FAMILY STAY!!

5 of 5
We have just returned home after staying the week in what we now consider our second home, the Creekside Cabin in Rawley Springs. Our large family LOVED every minute of our stay here. We have 5 children, ages 15,10,8,4, and 1 year, and all slept comfortably and had plenty of room to roam and enjoy the outdoors. For us, sometimes it is a challenge to find something all age ranges will enjoy, but this cabin and the surrounding area met all of our needs. We found the cabin to be clean and comfortable. The kitchen appliances all worked very well and I (mom) actually fell in love with the old sink and stove. :) It really made me feel connected with the people who originally built this cabin many years ago. The beds were incredibly comfortable, there is a pull out couch near the back of the cabin where our boys slept, and they were able to enjoy the sounds of the creek just as we were in the master bedroom. We slept so peacefully and soundly, and the quiet is what sticks out to us most of all. The area is not full of tourist traps and the like, it is just....simply a beautiful and very scenic area. Not a ton of people all around you, so if you want a place to relax and get away from it all, this is for you. The creek behind the cabin is beautiful, and larger than we expected based on the photos. We just couldn't believe it when we first arrived and saw it! Our kids, all of them, even the baby, enjoyed splashing in the creek. They really could have skipped rocks and played in there all day. We fished and only caught a few small trout, but it was fun nonetheless. The water is crystal clear! We also enjoyed campfires right on the water. It is actually quite shady in the back so the kids could play without the blazing sun on them. It was just amazing! Can't say enough about it! We did the hike to High Knob Fire Tower with all 5 kiddos, and that was tough but everyone enjoyed it. It did take us 3 hours round trip though. Again, the cabin and area are wonderful...the animals across the road are quite sweet! Kids fed them grass every day and now they want a pony of their own. (Haha, NO!) The cabin does have a bug or two here and there, but for heaven's sake it is a cabin in the woods! Also, there are these great things called a rolled up newspaper or a flip flop, they come in handy. :) The cabin is great, highly recommended! We are already making plans to return and have pretty much made this our family's "place" that we will always vacation to. That says a lot! :)

RELAXING AND IMPRESSIVE

5 of 5
Our family has looked on-line all over the mountains of Virginia for a place like this. None have been as nice as this place. The combination of pretty farm land, Skyline Drive only minutes away and the river on three sides makes this our favorite by far. You can get more luxury and amenities at a re$ort but none we've found gives you the farm, the mountains and river in one package, not to mention, none will give you a 100 acres all to yourself. Our family and friends enjoyed a wonderful week here in June of 2014 (2nd visit here). It is honestly better in person than any picture can convey. The house is well appointed and comfortable. Outside is even better. Sitting on the porch and walking the fields is the only way one can get a true sense of all the acreage that one has sole use of at this property. Besides the Farm house itself, the barn with the game room was much appreciated by both the kids and the parents - bring an extra Wii controller and batteries if there is a bad weather day. If the weather is good we recommend a day down at the river playing and fishing on the river's edge, using the canoe that is provided and grilling on the grill that is riverside, too. (Note, we had no idea there was a heat wave down in DC while we were staying here, it is truly cooler here.) Also, I recommend bringing a boat or renting their pontoon boat - the owner's son who goes by the name Sean, though we are all convinced he is actually the actor Orlando Bloom, will kindly help you with the boat rental. As a group we all caught all the fish we wanted - I for one have rarely seen such large sunfish. Another favorite at the farm house was the gas fire pit that the adults enjoyed talking around each evening while the kids chased lighting bugs and played in the hammock. (If you don't have kids with you, please enjoy that hammock, I could not get time in it without a bevy of kids piling on me.) In short, this is a great place that is relaxing and impressive.
