Charming home in quiet Linden with a hot tub

5 of 5
This charming A frame home is well cared for and has comfortable beds for a family of 5. Up to 7 ppl can stay if they share beds. No pull out sofa beds, comfortable beds with warm blankets and a variety of pillow. The kitchen is well equipped even with holiday platters and a soup tureen for our Thanksgiving meal we prepared. The owner is generous with sharing spices and condiments and leaves them for use by renters. The hot tub was warm and comfortable outside watching the night sky. We arrived to the home with 6" of snow. The owner called to warn us beforehand so we drove out 4WD vehicle to get up the 4mile paved road and navigated the plowed gravel road the last half mile to the house. Though there are neighbors close by, the house seems secluded. It is a beautiful are close to wineries, the Appalacian trail and Va horse country. It is one short hour from Washington DC. It is a great place to really get away.

Loved it, Loved it, Loved it...

5 of 5
This is a beautiful, well maintained cottage overlooking the Shenandoah River. Great furnishings, great beds, great linens and a well equipped kitchen make this a wonderful place for a get away. The views of the river and mountains are amazing. Sean was wonderful to work with and provided everything we needed for a great stay. The house has a wonderful traffic flow so though it is not huge, we did not bump into each other. The deck furniture is wonderful and all three decks were well used during our stay. I would recommend that you arrive during daylight, as the road in can be confusing for those of us used to city roads, even though Sean provided excellent directions. I highly recommend this place for families, couples and all get-aways. Thanks!!

White Oak Cottage

4 of 5
Overall we had a very pleasant experience staying at White Oak Cottage. The location is very central with easy access to Old Rag Mountain and the White Oak Canyon trail, which was the most important factor for us. The cottage itself provides everything that is needed for a weekend trip, but it is very basic so I don't think it would be comfortable for a longer stay. If you plan to cook, bring your own spices, as only salt and pepper are provided. Guests should be prepared for a remote stay, meaning there isn't any cell phone reception whatsoever. Bill provides the house telephone number in advance, so be sure to give it to your family/friends if they need to reach you, as they won't be able to call you on your cell, nor will you be able to make any long-distance calls. Bring a tablet or laptop to access Wi-Fi. Also, be sure to print round-trip directions, as you won't get cell service to access your phone's GPS. Lastly, be sure to arrive during the daytime, as it gets pitch black at night and it is very, very scary to drive those narrow roads in the complete dark. Bill is an exceptional host and was so wonderful to interact with. He is extremely responsive to email and provided very helpful suggestions. I really enjoyed our interactions and would definitely recommend him as a host.
