Peaceful, clean and good location

4 of 5
We were satisfied with Stepping Stone Cabin. We found the cabin with the help of our GPS and the directions provided by Bill. Very clean on arrival. Nice outside area with bench and table and chairs. We enjoyed going on the river in the canoe and used the hot tub both evenings. Greatspot to get away from it all but close enough to drive to Luray or the Skyline Drive.

Warm, wonderful memories

5 of 5
We wanted a family vacation house where we could relax, visit, eat good food, and unwind. This was a great place for us. The layout of the place (open from one end to the other with the kitchen in the center, seating area on one end and dining on the other) was ideal. Being in the kitchen never felt isolated as it is truly the center of the house. The kitchen also has a large pantry that was great for storing food we had brought along for our stay. We could put things "away" and feel like the space was clean and uncluttered. Bedrooms, bathrooms and closets are large and accommodating. The large windows in the main house area allow for expansive views. We watched a flock of wild turkeys coming out of the woods while eating dinner and saw a bald eagle flying over one afternoon. Each morning our grandchildren would stand at the windows and look across the valley to see the cows in the meadows. We had rain during one of our days there, and while we had hoped for sunshine, the rain and fog brought a whole new dimension to the place. We felt like we had been snugged in by a warm turtleneck shirt, and watching the clouds rise and fall on the mountains was magical...did I mention that we were also there during full moon? Ahhhhhh! We created lots of great memories.

A Very Special Place

5 of 5
For people who like to plan vacations the way I do I find that sometimes you just don't get it right, other times you almost get it right, and then there are other times when you get it right. We got this one right. This cabin can teach many things among which is the joys of quietness. I got up one morning in order to go out on the porch and catch the morning gifts of fresh air, cool breezes, and morning dew on a spotless lawn. The day we arrived, the lawn was spotless, but the next morning, leaves had begun to fall, and the sight of fallen yellow leaves, and a cup of joe, on a crisp October morning, with natures symphony in the background, deepened our Fox Den experience. I join the chorus of reviewers who described this cabin as, neat and clean and I would add homey to the refrain. This is a "no frills" cabin that is filled with frills. This is not a contradiction in terms. It just depends on what you mean by "frills". If, by frills, you mean a hot tub, a game room, etc., then it is, no. But, if by frills, you mean, listening to John Denver on a quiet morning at the breakfast table, or sitting on a porch where everything rocks including the swing, the porch bench and two of the largest, most comfortable rocking chairs you have ever seen, or, sitting on the porch after a delightful day of activities, while the sun is setting and a cool breeze is making the kind of nature's music that people buy and play on their sound systems to sleep by, then Fox Den is full of frills. Fox Den teaches me that there is nothing better than old things that are well kept. The cabin is full of old things that seem to have souls that deepen with age. The quilts, the turntable, the art on the wall, the dressers are all well kept and beautiful. Everything in the cabin is convenient and user-friendly. Erik is more than a host or a facilitator. He appears to be more a part of all that I have described rather than merely a host. If anyone wanted to enjoy a getaway then this is the place to get away to. My wife and I will likely return to this place.
