Can't wait to return!

Absolutely adorable cottage! We loved the layout so much it has inspired the design of our next house. Shar definitely knows how to decorate. We had as much fun doing things at the cottage as we did wandering about the valley and up into the mountains. The cottage is so comfortable you feel right at home. The shower was awesome, and while the kitchen might be small, we had no problems preparing meals and feeling at ease in the space. We do most of our traveling by camping in tents but the setup here is perfect for maintaining the best of both worlds - the comfort of sleeping indoors while still being able to enjoy a fire or cooking on the grill outdoors. The screened-in porch was terrific for enjoying coffee and breakfast every morning. It was nice having the entertainment system, too. And if you just can't leave your laptop home, there's even wifi so you can play or work during your stay. Shar is the perfect hostess. She's a wealth of information for great places to eat and things to do. She does everything in her power to make her guests feel at home and comfortable during their stay. If I could, I'd give this a 10 star review. We hope to stay here again the next time we plan to stay near Shenandoah National Park. There are so many things to do in the area and so many worthy hikes, you just can't get them all done in a single week's visit.

Quiet, relaxing, and well-appointed

5 of 5
Enjoyed a few days & nights at this house. The place is as shown in the photos. The internet & cable worked well, and there were many premium cable channels / HD channels. Kitchen has all sorts of items for cooking, a great view, and the option to eat outside on the front or back areas. Just need your own sheets & towels & toiletries. Walked to the Shenandoah River further down the driveway past the house, and set up a portable hammock (the hammock was mine, not part of the house). Did not use the fire pit or hot tub. Picked fresh raspberries nearby along a road/path. Note the house is on a dirt road, about 5 or 6 miles after the paved road changes to dirt. Mobile phone coverage, as expected, was not there for Verizon or TMobile - ask if your carrier works there at the time of your stay. As the other review says, bring your food as the shopping is 30-40 minutes away. On the way you will pass a tubing outfitter place. GPS was able to find the house, but it was different than the "GPS location" sent to me, so just be ready to keep driving if needed on the dirt road. The white fence is easy to see, and the road ends a mile or so later. The owner was friendly (only spoke on the phone), and nicely mailed me a forgotten charger after my stay as well!

Perfect Fall Holiday Spot

5 of 5
My husband & I just spent 4 wonderful days at the Knotty Pine along with two of my brothers and their wives. Four of us came up from FL and wanted a place where we could enjoy "Fall". The cottage was everything we could have asked for and more...beautiful views, quiet location, comfortable beds, very well equipped with everything you could need, clean and well maintained. The deck was awesome; loved the swing, hot tub, and mountain views. We ate in for breakfast and dinner...and the husband chefs produced delicious meals from the kitchen which lacked for nothing. We enjoyed hiking down to the river and other excursions which took us to small towns, a winery, and Skyline Drive. Their is much to do within very easy driving distance from the cottage. In addition to how great the cottage was, the owner, Madge, was so helpful and accommodating. It was a pleasure working with her. She was always quickly responsive and helpful. Everything about our stay was wonderful. It was a joy to see the Fall colors and the weather was beautiful. I'd love to think we'll be back some day! Patty
