Just finished an excellent three-day weekend at the cabin. 2.5 hours from DC with 9 friends. We had a perfect weekend with a nice walk to a creak trail from the house (with several creek crossings) on Saturday and then drove twenty minutes to High Knob Fire Tower trail (3 mile loop that took about 1.5 hours). The rest of the time was spent lounging at the cabin, cooking food, playing Settlers of Catan and watching movies. Katie and her husband were extremely responsive and provide tremendous customer service. Steve stopped by to check in on us after I mentioned having trouble getting a fire lit in the fire place and extra supplies were sent up when we asked for them. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone. VRBO places can be hit or miss. this was a hit!

Exactly as listed, no major probs, would recommend

The listing description accurately described everything about the cabin. It was very easy to find based on the directions provided and not at all difficult to reach even with my small car (one of the things we were worried about when looking at other similar rentals). All of the appliances/amenities were in good working condition and we had no problems with them. The cookware was usable but not great. They have all of the basic things that you will need to prepare meals. Overall the property was well maintained and clean, however we had a big problem with the iron in the water supply. The presence of iron is warned about in the listing but it was much worse than we were expecting. Turning on the kitchen sink or even the shower brought on a horrendous smell. The fridge has a built in water filter but even combining that pre-filtered water with our Brita filter water bottles the bad taste was still able to get through. Because of this I would recommend bringing bottled water to drink. Showering also left us with a slight smell of iron on our skin. Katie told us when we arrived that the freezing and thawing of the pipes was causing the iron to be especially bad so it may be better in the warmer times of the year if this concerns you. This was really our only problem with the place over our 2 day stay and the only reason for my rating of 4 stars instead of 5. We did not really need any service while we were there so I cannot comment much on customer service, but Katie was very nice and welcoming to us on our arrival and it was evident that they take this very seriously and really cared about the quality of our stay. I would recommend this property to anyone, but with a warning about the iron problem. It was great for the price and we had a really nice experience staying here. There is not much to do in the area attraction-wise, but after reading about another resident's experience in the guest book we took a trip farther up the mountain to Switzer lake and enjoyed the views. If you're looking for a place to do some hiking and enjoy the peace and quiet of the mountain then I would recommend trying this out. It was about a 15 minute drive up the mountain and then about another 10 minute drive down a dirt road alongside the mountain to get to the lake.

Comfortable little cottage with a peaceful back patio that looks up towards the national forest. Beds were comfortable. Owners were very hospitable. Fireplace made it just right. Would definitely stay again. Highly recommended.
