Our family has looked on-line all over the mountains of Virginia for a place like this. None have been as nice as this place. The combination of pretty farm land, Skyline Drive only minutes away and the river on three sides makes this our favorite by far. You can get more luxury and amenities at a re$ort but none we've found gives you the farm, the mountains and river in one package, not to mention, none will give you a 100 acres all to yourself.
Our family and friends enjoyed a wonderful week here in June of 2014 (2nd visit here). It is honestly better in person than any picture can convey. The house is well appointed and comfortable. Outside is even better. Sitting on the porch and walking the fields is the only way one can get a true sense of all the acreage that one has sole use of at this property. Besides the Farm house itself, the barn with the game room was much appreciated by both the kids and the parents - bring an extra Wii controller and batteries if there is a bad weather day. If the weather is good we recommend a day down at the river playing and fishing on the river's edge, using the canoe that is provided and grilling on the grill that is riverside, too. (Note, we had no idea there was a heat wave down in DC while we were staying here, it is truly cooler here.) Also, I recommend bringing a boat or renting their pontoon boat - the owner's son who goes by the name Sean, though we are all convinced he is actually the actor Orlando Bloom, will kindly help you with the boat rental. As a group we all caught all the fish we wanted - I for one have rarely seen such large sunfish. Another favorite at the farm house was the gas fire pit that the adults enjoyed talking around each evening while the kids chased lighting bugs and played in the hammock. (If you don't have kids with you, please enjoy that hammock, I could not get time in it without a bevy of kids piling on me.) In short, this is a great place that is relaxing and impressive.
