Fabulous in every way!

5 of 5
We could not have asked for a better anything. Great location, great view, great house.....choose your option and add a wonderful adjective in front of it! The Dryden house has been restored to beauty and is located in a prime spot right off the beach. My family and I enjoyed a short hop to the beach and beautiful sunset views for our labor day vacation. The kitchen was spacious and the bedrooms were all enormous, providing plenty of room with just enough warmth to welcome visitors. The house itself maintains just enough of that old southern charm to give you a break from the modern day hustle and bustle. The added bonus of the attic play area gave us a good spot for our one year old to run around in without too much worry, allowing us to relax in the evenings and wind down. I would recommend the Dryden house for a small family looking for a getaway or for a large family who needs a large amount of space and plenty of bedrooms. Its the perfect fit!

Lots of space to spread out

4 of 5
We rented the Quarter Master for 2 weeks in August. It was an extended visit with 3 generations, 6 adults and 2 kids (4 and 2). We were pleasantly surprised with new furniture that was not in the pictures. There was a new sectional couch in the family room and new table and chairs in the kitchen. We were able to fit 6 people on the sectional at one time. The beds were comfortable and it was nice to have master suites for all adults. The front formal rooms were a nice place to spread out. It allowed us to put kids toys in a separate place and have another location for R and R. With little kids it was a distance to walk to the beach for my 2 year old especially with all the stuff they wanted to bring. We ended up driving with all the kids stuff. There was always a parking place so it was no problem. The bay was fantastic. Our kids (4/2) have never enjoyed the beach with the waves and tides until this year. They were in it more than the adults which is a sign of a great vacation!!!

great location!

4 of 5
The house was great! A few older home issues (disclosed in the welcome book)- but perfect space for family of 6. Furnishings in bedrooms were great- nice, comfy. Layout of bathroom/laundry/ dishwasher room (all in 1 room off the kitchen) on 1st floor was a little awkward, but we made it work. This house is a (very) short walk to the beach- and has great views of the bay in 2 (or 3?) of the bedrooms upstairs. Really great, convenient location. There is only one door in/out of house. We did discover on day 2 that there is an apartment on the second floor of the house above where the kitchen/laundry/bath are located on 1st floor. The apartment has a separate entrance in back of the house. Tenant was friendly. We noticed the apartment from the outside - and realized the room with double twin beds has a locked door connecting to apartment. You can occasionally hear tenant and a few times we could smell cigarette smoke in the room with double twin beds. The apartment was a surprise to us (and not disclosed anywhere that we could find). It also seems odd to make the house pet/smoke free - when an apartment in the house has a pet and a smoker. Surprise apartment aside, it was a really great house and met our needs. Charming, great value, close to the nearly empty beach, well-stocked with towels, kitchen items. Cape Charles is a lovely town!
