Tranquility, Fun and Breathtaking Views

5 of 5
We found this house randomly on VRBO without any location in mind for a long weekend away from NY. The house looked beautiful and the pictures do not disappoint. The house has been completely remodeled, decorated and is in pristine condition. We met the owner upon arrival and he welcomed us and showed us everything about the house and large property - he certainly takes pride in this house. The water views are amazing and in our four days there I did not see any boat on the water. Tranquil and beautiful - just views of water, sky and other vintage homes gracing the waterfront. Oh and the Osprey nest! The kids had a ball - crab traps, bikes, oysters, lawn games, hammocks and pool (too early in the season while we were there). Town is small and nice - had fun meals out but best was steaks on the grill at the house. Waterfront firepit for hanging out and s'mores. House has Canoes and kayaks but a bit early in the season when we were there. Visited Williamsbiurg one day - about 40 min away. We stayed at the house with our family - grandma and two families with 5 kids total and the house was certainly large enough. Family members from 3 to 75 loved it - and this is not an easy crowd! The location is remote (we welcomed that) and was a haul from NYC-Long Island for a few days but so glad we went and hope to go back. Thanks to Bill for thinking of everything to make this a great stay.

Amazing house in peaceful setting

5 of 5
We stayed in this home for ten days . The house has 3 floors , the family room has 3 large windows , through which you can watch the mandarins and buffleheads for hours , as well as the herons and bald eagles . The second floor is your master bedroom , again lots of windows and a porthole through which you watch the sun rise . The third floor is the viewing area / early evening bar , where we sat watching the sun set over the Potomac . The house is a great place to stay and you will find it hard to find a better location if you want a peaceful break . Additionally there is a guest house for bigger groups , but for a party of two we found the home perfect . You are close enough to supermarkets in Heathsville about 10 miles away , or Kilmarnock which is a little further . The house is great , better than the pictures , very clean , we met Matt and Lacelle who gave us a tour on arrival .Matt was a great contact through e.mail , responding immediately to any questions we had . I would recommend this property to everybody . We loved the wildlife , I have never seen so many birds . We visited Richmond , Virginia beach , Newport , Yorktown and Williamsburg among others ...... Lots to do and not to far away . Thanks fo the experience. Stewart and Hazel. England.

Very much "at home" at Fish Tales

5 of 5
We were delighted with this house, and enjoyed a very relaxing vacation. The VRBO rental process was easy, and Catherine was very helpful. About half of our days here were rainy, but we didn't mind because there are an incredible number of books, fiction and non-fiction, as well as games, televisions, wifi, and places to doze off and relax. Catherine provides more than the typical rental home owner to make your stay carefree. The house was clean & well-stocked, and the view from the deck is soothing. Be sure you get up in time for a sunrise or two. One note: the kitchen is small but has most everything you will need, but there is no conventional oven - just the large convection oven on the counter, so my large muffin pan would not fit. Just be prepared for smaller projects if you want to do any baking. Fish Tales has a large, comfortable den on the bottom level with a huge flat-screen TV, a mid-level living room with water views & TV, and a larger-than-expected loft on the top level that also has comfortable seating & TV. This allowed us to find quiet spots when we wanted to spend solitary time reading or working (or napping). The wifi service worked very well. The upper deck is huge, and the lower level has a screened porch with comfortable seating. You easily forget that you are in a neighborhood, because the setting feels very secluded. We would certainly welcome the opportunity to stay at Fish Tales again, and the dog agrees!
