A TRUE GETAWAY

5 of 5
Time has gotten away from us since our visit to this beautiful home, just as time flew by too quickly during our Christmas stay at the James River Plantation. Although our visit seems long ago, our memories are vividly happy ones. From the moment we unlocked the first of two gates that protect this beautiful and secluded home, we knew we were in for a special and relaxing vacation. When the main house came into view, we felt as though we had gone back in time to a country estate. The house’s wonderfully furnished interior was just as impressive, with its welcoming foyer; comfortable dining room, den, and bedrooms; and large modernly equipped kitchen, pantry, and laundry room. The view overlooking the water was lovely from sunrise to sunset whether we were having coffee on the front lawn or dinner in the large, glassed-enclosed porch. Yes, we had sunrise coffee in the front yard in December! The pool house (and its pool) is quite large and includes two bathrooms with showers, a table and chairs, and an outdoor deck with lounge chairs and a view of the main house and water. The heated pool was a perfect temperature. The town of Urbanna is quaint, and everyone we met there was very friendly and hospitable. Many thanks to Linda for promptly responding to pre-rental questions and helping to make our stay so enjoyable. It was a perfect Christmas getaway. We hope to return to the James River Plantation, perhaps explore its beauty in another season.

TOP NOTCH IN EVERY WAY!

5 of 5
My wife & I just finished a week long "reunion vacation" at Blue Haven with 3 other couples who've been friends for over 30 years. Website pictures here are good but really don't do it justice. As other reviewers have mentioned, everything has been thought of. Views are spectacular and house is very comfortable. Privacy is easily gained with so many well-furnished bedrooms. Plenty of wildlife to be seen. A large osprey nest is in one of the large trees at the bay-side edge of the property. While boating close to the house, we saw a dolphin. Very very responsive owner. We mentioned our plans to use the grille pretty extensively through the week. The next morning, a brand new grille had been purchased to replace the "old one." Very easy to catch Chesapeake Blue Crabs. Traps for doing so are provided in the large boathouse. And, there's a propane fueled crab pot for cooking the catch. Everything has been well-cared for and is in top condition. Swimming pool too is crystal clear & a very comfortable temperature. We used the provided kayaks (including PFD's & paddles) and the bikes. Again, all are well maintained. By now it's evident that we thoroughly enjoyed the week and found Blue Haven to be an outstanding experience - no exaggeration.

HOUSE ON THE RIVER

5 of 5
We had family coming over from UK for 2 weeks and instead of doing the usual Washington DC tourist thing we thought of doing something different. This was the perfect place to get away from it all. We didn't even realize how fast the 3 days passed by and were lamenting that we could not stay longer. The house had enough rooms (and more importantly enough bathrooms) for the 7 of us. But nothings beats the view. The back of the house is almost all glass so you get unobstructed view of the Potomac no matter where you are. I takes books on these relaxing getaways but I didn't get to read a single page because I was too busy enjoying the view. Each time of the day had its own charm; starting from the beautiful sunrise to the mid-day blue sky and the wind and the waves on the river to the quiet evenings and nights. I don't remember when is the last time I saw so many stars in the night sky. We did our fair share of fishing and grilling. I wish I had a boat or jetski to get on the water. Unfortunately there was no boat or jetski rental places close by. We also visited George Washington's birthplace and ancestral home which is only 15 minutes away. We will definitely be back and stay longer next time. We want to thank the Pooles for sharing the beautiful house with us.
