Hathaway is even nicer than described. It is an extremely well maintained, immaculate home which is well appointed. The neighborhood is quiet and also well maintained. I felt very safe there which is a big consideration for me as a single woman traveling with my kids. The house is very near a basic shopping center with a grocery store, gas station and a couple of restaurants. It is very close to downtown C'ville which has many great restaurants (Now and Zen was my favorite) as well as good shopping with everything from antique stores to boutiques to big high end retailers. It is one of the historic parts of town well worth walking through. I spent a lot of time near Scottsville and my favorite restaurant there was the Tavern for lunch, the BBQ place for dinner and Bain's for the best homemade chai tea I've had. I can't remember the BBQ restaurant name but it was very good and worth the ride from town if you love smoked bbq'd ribs and pulled pork.
The owner of Hathaway was very gracious and warm and made us feel truly welcome. This was the first time I have ever stayed in someone's home as opposed to a hotel. I thought I might feel awkward but the owner put me at ease and encouraged us to make ourselves comfortable and at home. I slept like a baby the first night! They stocked the fridge with a nice spread of breakfast items which was appreciated in the morning after a long day of travel. Honestly this experience was such a pleasant surprise; I do hope to be able to stay at Hathaway again on my next visit to C'ville.
