My family and I wanted a long weekend get-away where we had options from staying in and relaxing to heading out for hikes and into town. Skyline Crest fit the bill! Beautiful, unrestricted views from West through North to East of the Virginia countryside. There were five of us (about the limit) but three are small kids and enjoyed the "sleepover" in the same room. We came on a very windy weekend - and as you should expect on top of mountain, any substantial wind is increased dramatically at the top. The wind was loud on the first night but died down as the system moved on so expect the noise if windy. Our plan was to spend a day or so heading down the mountain and into Charlottesville to tour UVA and Monticello and that worked out great. At the house, walk right out the door and start exploring! We found the old restored farm cabin, walked the trails and farm roads and soaked in the solitude. The kitchenware is in great condition and plentiful. The house is well maintained and the owners are very responsive. Case in point: Our daughter left her "blankie" in the sheets - pretty much a level 3 emergency. When we contacted the owner he made it "priority one" and overnighted the blankie back to us. Classy.
