Great Family Area Visit Launch Site - Or Just Destination

5 of 5
We ended a road trip with a week at Afton Cottage. Having stayed in the Charlottesville area in the past, we had an idea of the places we were going to visit and from the description the cottage seemed like a great fit. It absolutely did not disappoint! It was roomy enough for our family of 4 plus our dog, but still felt cozy. It was well-equipped with all the basics. The laundry room and having plenty of linens and towels for everyone were definite perks - as anyone who has traveled with small children can appreciate! Dick has a binder, which I'll call "the book." It has information on the area from some basics to you-didn't-realize-you-wanted-to-know-until-you-did pieces of info. We visited Monticello, Michie Tavern, Carter Mountain, Blue Mountain Brewery, Devil's Backbone Brewery, the Cidery, a handful of vineyards, Tuckahoe Antique Mall (very reasonable BTW) and did some hiking in Shenandoah and a cute little walking trail in Nellysford. We also visited several of the local shops for produce/local items. Critzer has great produce and fresh eggs and the woman during my visit was super friendly. The heirloom tomatoes are amazing. They're literally across from Blue Mountain Brewery. Definitely worth the quick trip. During the rainy days we were content to stay in and watch movies. On nice days, the deck was perfect for deer watching, coffee in the morning and stars in the evening. Dick popped by to introduce himself and to answer any questions, but didn't impose. Overall, it is a great little retreat! Even our dog had a great time - kicked off by the complementary dog treats waiting for her on arrival! P.S. A previous reviewer mentioned the knives. It seemed like a random comment to me at the time, but boy will you enjoy them if you do any of your own meal prep!

Beautiful Spot

5 of 5
Quandary Farm is set amidsome absolutely beautiful land, and we really enjoyed pulling up and taking it all in. The cottage itself is perfect for a weekend -- cute, comfortable and well appointed with everything you need (including good Wi-Fi.). Elizabeth had left flowers and champagne inside to greet us and walked over to say hello when we left the next morning. She's a wonderful host who anticipated a lot of needs. When it's time to wander out, three wineries are a very short drive away, and we really liked Jefferson and Blenheim. It took about 25 minutes to get to the downtown restaurants, but the scenery along the way made the trip seem much faster. We look forward to returning for another wine weekend and Elizabeth's hospitality.

Incredible stay

5 of 5
Su Casa is fantastic. Surrounded by several acres of woods and fields, you'll feel well removed from Charlottesville but are only a few minutes away. Loved the deck and outdoor dining area. The several huge windows make it feel like you're living amongst the oaks. The proprietors are incredibly generous, attentive and are all-around great folks. Crozet is 5-10 minutes down the road and Charlottesville is 10-15. About 12 miles to Skyline Drive and Shenandoah National Park. Highly recommend. Will come back here for sure.
