My husband and I celebrated our 40th anniversary during our 10-day stay. The condo looks like the photos, but is not remodeled with quality. Air conditioning proved a problem at the start, and after 3 days and 80 degree temps in the unit it was repaired. All unit lights did not work. One bathroom sink had a very slow drain. Patio has a roof with slats where crumbs from the above condo would slip threw to our deck. Ducks, seagulls, doves, and iguanas were quite entertaining from the deck. There was an outdated, dirty, torn binder in the unit showing things to do that no longer were in operation - tennis courts with cracked surface and weeds sprouting everywhere, marina under renovation since January, restaurant by pool closed many years now, and phone numbers that did not pertain to this condo. We walked up a very steep hill to catch a local "bus" truck for $1 each to go about 1.5 miles to Red Hook - a one-way mode of transportation. Had to taxi back to the resort for $14 per couple. A food store is a mile or so further from Red Hook so we would take the bus there to shop and taxi back for $16 per couple. Food prices are very high. Enjoyed our ferry ride to St. John's where we snorkeled from a non-touristy beach. Spent most of our days sitting on a lounge chair reading along the Sapphire beach, or snorkeling. We saw a couple sea turtles and a sting ray with colorful fish over 8 days of snorkeling. Even though the coral had been damaged by humans, it was fun to do this activity. It felt like a resort that in its day was really something, suffered a decline, and is being slowly revived. It would have been helpful if we brought our laptop for searching what to do, where to eat, where to shop, etc. We felt at a loss when it came to planning adventures, so resorted to a restful time. You can eat light meals and drinks at two small outdoor canteens - one on the way to the beach and the other a BBQ area at the top of the hill where you wait for a bus. They closed by 4 p.m. each day. There is no room service or housekeeping. If you are okay with a quiet vacation, this place is for you. This was my husband's best vacation ever!
