Great Location and Fabulous view!!

5 of 5
My husband and I stayed at Lion's Gate Getaway for a week and we absolutely loved it!!! The apartment is very comfortable with a full kitchen stocked with all amenities and appliances you could think of: blender, microwave, coffee maker, toaster oven, Cuisinart...even some little beer cozies! There is air conditioning, however we were fine with just leaving the windows open, as there is a great cross breeze that blows through and keeps the place cool. The front porch is AMAZING! It provides a terrific view of the harbor as well as the trees and hills. It served as a great outdoor dining area where we ate a few meals as well as had morning coffee out there. Mosquitos love me, so it was great that there were mosquito coils in the kitchen for use when sitting out on the porch so I was not a "buffet." There is a queen sized bed that was comfortable with high quality linens and pillows. The pillows are soft, which we were okay with. The stone shower was huge! Good water pressure and no issues with hot water. This was a great location as we were walking distance to the Red Hook area which has many bars, restaurants, a grocery store (Moe's), as well as the Inter-island ferry dock right across the street. As this property is located at the TOP of a hill, it takes 2-3 minutes to walk into town (all downhill). However, to walk back up to Lion's Gate it is a STEEP hill. My hubby and I are in good shape and we timed it: 8 1/2 minutes to walk up the hill. So it is doable...but it is a climb. It does help to burn off rum drinks we had each day though :) That said, it is just as easy to get a cab that will bring you back up to the property if you don't want to climb. So don't let that deter you. We loved being up on that hill, as the view was phenomenal! To rent a car or not: If you rent a car, you will have a parking spot right in front of the property. I would say it's good to rent a car for at least part of your stay. It ensures you can sight see around the island. However, the cabs to go all over the island. They charge per passenger, but are fixed rates: so it ranges from $5-11 per person based upon the distance you are going. Do ask Max for suggestions on what to do and where to go. She is really great and helpful! We didn't do a sailing trip with her this visit, but fully will next time! Totally recommend this place for those wanting a place convenient to town with wonderful views.

Beautiful home & beautiful view!

5 of 5
This beautiful home is nestled in one of the many gorgeous hills of St. Thomas. As soon as you pull into the driveway you know you've reached paradise. The house is absolutely gorgeous and spotless and the view is spectacular. Joe and Marcia are great hosts and made us feel very welcome. Marcia put much thought into amenities from beach mats & towels and even a beach bag, to wine glasses and a cheese grater in the kitchen (not mention everything else you need in a kitchen). Joe even found and cut an aloe vera plant for me to apply to my awful sunburn. Sitting on the deck at night and in the morning looking out at the amazing view will be missed. We highly recommend this home and will stay here again! -Libby & Joe

Great apartment and ideal location

5 of 5
The property was even better than anticipated. It's all brand new, recently and tastefully renovated, and extremely clean! The bed and sheets were very comfortable and of nice quality. The view from the deck is great--especially considering you're on the top of a mountain and not seaside--with a table and chairs to enjoy a private drink or breakfast. My favorite part is that it is very close to Secret Harbor--there's a lovely little beach, a restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner (not to mention a great happy hour)--but at the same time the place is quiet and away from the crowds. Red Hook and the ferry are also very close by. David, the host, is a super friendly and helpful 'dude'. We would definitely recommend it!
