clean and well equiped condo with engaging owner

5 of 5
My son and I stayed at this unit from 12/18 to 26. As all travelers do, we did our homework on ST Thomas on weather, places to go or things to do, etc. But you never know the exact nature of the place you are going to stay or what kind of owner you have to deal with. More often than not, your good mood of vacation will vanish if you encounter a shabby place , or worse, a creepy owner. We were so lucky this time to have rented Mr. George Johansen's condo. First, George is a very reasonable and detail-oriented person from the moment we initiated the rental to the point I got my deposit back. The entire process was straightforward, smooth and friendly. Before I contacted George, I talked to a few other rental owners in that area, from the first call you could tell some owners were playing silly games in this digital era. But George earned my trust from the first call I made to him. Second, owner George is very considerate. Before I left VA home, I received keys, maps and a long letter on directions (even hand-marked maps on how to get there), points of interests on the island and almost every aspect a traveler would like to know. Thank you George for that detailed info letter! George also sent me a cushioned envelope with return address and stamps ready for me to mail back the keys when I return. Small convenience to guests but showed what kind of owner he is. George was patient and responsive to every inquiry I made. Now the unit itself. I read other's reviews before I decided to call the owner. I fully agree to other comments on how well the unit was up-kept. It is indeed well stocked and very nicely decorated, which gives you a home-returning feel--not a feel that you are travelling to a strange place. Great job, George! Also thank you for the cool drinks prepared for travelers! Enough kitchen, bath and beach towels. everything works in the unit. AC motor was broken and George sent folks to repair it without me needing to make an issue of it at all. A very neat place to stay. The near-by beach itself is not the best among the ones on the island. Since all the wonderful beaches are open to visitors by law, you can visit any other- we visited 5 of them. The lighted tennis courts right down the window made my trip a little "luxury". Great all-round experience--this unit is highly recommended!

Great host, close in location. Love the place.

About the location: Great close in location close enough and far enough to Cruz Bay. We are a family of 4 with 10 and 12 years old girls. It's a 15 minutes walk to Cruz Bay. From the Saint John Visitor Center to Salamon Beach is a 20 minutes walk on the trail, another 8 minutes to Honeymoon Beach, another 10 minutes to Caneel resort. You can buy drinks/chips at Honeymoon beach and foods at Caneel resort. Due to the steep hill, walking back is harder but you get used to it the second time. 7 minutes walk to Candi for great BBQ. Many great restaurants are in town. Cruz Landing has the best Bushwacker and happy hour appetizers. We stayed late in town to enjoy the music and the festivities. Because of the location, we do not need to rent a jeep. We took Taxi to Trunk Bay and Cinnamon Bay. About the property: Great little place. Clean with all the things you ever need. We traveled twice a year and always used VRBO but this is the first place that we feel like we have every thing we need. Feel like home actually. About the hosts: Don't know what else to say except they are the best with great communication during the booking. You always feel the hosts are close enough and available if you need anything and yet far enough to give you the time to enjoy your vacation. The Drive around the island and the trip to the market weres an unexpected bonus.

Very clean, very helpful owner

5 of 5
Stayed Nov 29 thru Dec 6, 2014. This place was spotless, with a lot of the items many places we have rented thru VRBO don't provide, from basic condiments to extra towels, extensive recommendations on activities and restaurants from owner etc. We arrived at night and the owner had his friend meet us at airport, lead us to a market before it closed, and get us set up in Condo. Recommend the Palms restaurant just east of Condo (3 block drive), Breezes restaurant, Buck Island with Buck Island Charters on Teroro II out of Green Cay Marina (fewer people than on some of the other providers, nice Catamaran with great crew). Cane bay is beautiful with nice bar/restaurant overlooking beach. This Condo is right on the water with only a low sea wall separating you from the waves. Neil and Linda
