This was my BF's and my 3rd time on St John; we've stayed in different areas each time, and enjoyed them all---- I mean, how could you not???
I picked this cottage (which is exactly as you see in the pictures: very cute and well-maintained, with a great view) because we wanted to be away from town--- without being waaay in the boonies of Coral Bay. This is walkable (if you're ok with steep hills) to at least one beach, and a trail into the National Park, but not too long a drive into Cruz Bay.
The manager, Gina, was helpful and welcoming, and had picked us some papayas and little bananas from the property.
We loved the cottage! The view is amazing! Drank coffee and bird-watched on the deck, in the morning; collapsed in the hammock, after hiking; and made dinner at home in the small-but-functional kitchen (and grill).
There is an A/C in the bedroom, but this time of year it was totally unnecessary, since there was a lovely breeze every night!
FYI: In case you still want to be connected to the outside world, via wifi: it is fine for emails, skype, and downloading an ebook--- but forget Netflix--- and downloading a movie from iTunes took more than 8 hours, on my ipad... So if you are interested in watching a movie in paradise, I suggest you bring it with you or rent a DVD from the Starfish Market.... and there are a handful, in the cottage, as well.
There was only one drawback. There seemed to be some small leak in the water-pump system, which caused it come on once or twice every night/early am (when no one had run any water). It only ran 30 seconds or so, but was quite jolting in the peaceful, tropical night. We didn't even bother reporting it until we left, so it may have already been fixed.
We'd definitely stay at Fishbone again--- It was lovely!!!
