Breathtaking!

5 of 5
Villa Solemare is not something one can simply describe in words! We climbed a steep terrane, the gates opened and we walked down a set of sculpted stairs to a view that was unreal. My husband and I actually had tears in our eyes as we stood in utter awe of the Villa. Beautifully maintained and meticulously clean, Bob our caretaker gave us the tour and was there to answer every question and fulfill any possible need. The villa has a beautiful flow, that is both cozy and inviting while capitalizing on the views of the British Virgin Islands in the distance. The kitchen features a six burner stove and for those who love to cook, as I do, found it to be a conversational area while being efficient. The cacophony of island/jungle noises at night were an absolute delight! The description of the villa is however, inaccurate, it is beyond what pictures and verbiage can communicate--it is something that one has to see for themselves! We look forward to visiting again and again....Villa Solemare is truly paradise on earth!

Unforgettable Honeymoon!

5 of 5
We loved staying at Iola for our honeymoon! The house was everything that the listing described and so much more! There were a few items that we had forgotten that was covered in the house and we were so thankful to not have to worry about things. Having beach chairs, coolers and other items that are not easy to travel with made our stay on St. John that much better! The house was absolutely beautiful and we would not only like to return, but will recommend the house to others. We loved eating at Miss Lucy's and exploring the island. The hikes we enjoyed the most were Reef Bay (guided by the National Parks Service) and Ram Head, which is just a few minutes away from the house. Highly recommend!

Heaven on Earth

5 of 5
Our day of travel is ridiculous coming from Minneapolis. We started our 17 hour day flying from MSP to Miami and then Miami to St. Thomas. We rented our car on St. Thomas and drove like crazy to make it to the car ferry in Red Hook - although that, in itself, is an ordeal, they know what they are doing. We headed across unusually rough seas (locals confirmed this, as well as the super smooth return trip) and were greeted on the other side by the house manager. We followed her through the winding & steep roads of St. John to a lovely market at the bottom of the hill from the home - there we picked up food with our iPhone flashlights since power was lost on the island (we were told this happens about 3 times a year, but only stays off for 30 minutes max). As we started the drive up to Mooncottage, I thought, "what have we done?" We got up there, as the sun was setting and tried to do a walk-through and understand everything with no power. After the house manager left, we grabbed a glass of wine, lit candles, and sat down on the veranda, EXHAUSTED. Anxiety was starting to set in and I thought, "what happens if the power doesn't come back on?!?" As we sat there, quiet, both wondering what decision we had made, we were inundated with the sounds of tree frogs chirping (beautiful sound). All of a sudden the lights popped on, the fans started to swirl and we did a happy dance. With all that, I can honestly say that I would do DOUBLE the travel to return to Mooncottage. It's better than the pictures. At least 100 times during the week, my husband said, "We have NEVER stayed in a place that we had a tough time leaving for the beach." Each day, we'd have breakfast and decide which beach to go to and we found ourselves dragging those mornings later and later (to the point we couldn't find parking for beaches a few of the days). This place is PURE magic. It is so private. The view is unreal. The attention to detail through every facet of this house is simply remarkable. You can FEEL the love and energy that was put into this tranquil home. This is a positive place. It was the best week of our lives. We never wanted to leave - we ate several dinners in, too, simply because we adored being there & with each other so very much. I can't say enough about this magical place that sits high atop the mountain, looking out on east end and Tortola ... there truly are no words, one must simply go to experience heaven on earth.
