Truly Lovely

5 of 5
Moonglow is an absolute gem of St. John! We were incredibly comfortable during our stay, from the comfy bed to the screened-in porch to the fans... Living is easy here! Every morning we awoke to a beautiful sunrise with a magnificent view. We brought our yoga mats and stretched while watching the sun rise. Such an amazing way to start the day! The hot tub was a wonderful bonus and welcome in the mornings and the evenings while gazing out at that beautiful horizon. We had a wonderful couples massage by Cary and Barb from Paradise Massage. They came right to the cottage and helped us relax into vacation much more quickly...highly recommended toward the start of your stay! The kitchen is equip with everything you would need to do your own cooking and grilling. The outdoor shower is a treat! Bug repellent was beneficial especially after it rained but it wasn't too much of a problem. Mary Lou and Larry, you have a truly enchanting spot on earth! We are truly grateful for our stay at Moonglow; it made our honeymoon all the more special. We have many lovely memories and hope to return some day!

Lovely, lovely, lovely

Beautiful space. Lovely attention to detail. Spotless, fresh, well maintained. We loved having coffee every morning out on the screened porch, as we plotted which beach we would go to that day. The kitchen is outfitted with most everything you would need (could use some wine glasses and a few more basic spices) and there's a nice grill out on the deck, so if you want to cook in some night, you are set. The view that is in the pics here are totally true. It is really spectacular. The night noises are also amazing. I even enjoyed the cute little lizards that are all over the place (most of them are outside--don't worry.) We liked being on the east side of the island, Coral Bay, which is quieter than Cruz Bay, but still within easy driving (well, there's no such thing as easy driving on St. John, but at least a short drive) from everything you want, like beaches and hiking. There's a great little bar/deli at the bottom of the hill, the Pickles...something. We picked up sandwiches there in the morning for the beach. Aqua Bistro is great too--we ate there twice. The fish was excellent and the tuna appetizer is to die for. This is the perfect place for a couple--no children--who have no mobility issues. Really--if you have bad knees, this is not your best choice. There are 68 steps down to the cottage, meaning there are 68 steps UP to your jeep. You truly make sure you have everything you need when you head out, because though it is excellent exercise, most people are going to be a bit out of breath at the top. The other mobility issue is the ladder up to the loft where the bed is. Again, not a huge issue, but if you get up a lot at night, or have a fear of heights, you might find this set up less to your liking. We would admonish each other to "be careful" every time we went down. The owner, Susan, does not hide this fact either. They also have a lovely property at the parking area that does not involve lots of steps, so check that out. All things considered, it is a great value and a beautiful place. We would definitely go back.

So wonderful I'm tempted to keep it a secret

5 of 5
Allison's house-not to mention Allison--are everything you could ask for if you want a peaceful, private, quiet, bright and colorful, clean, cozy, comfortable and unique retreat. It was exactly what I was looking for. It is perfectly appointed with the essentials: cooking equipment, utensils, stove, fridge, grill, coolers, drinking water supplied, basic cooking spices, guide books, maps--even an onsite massage table! I was so entranced by the birds, hammock and views that I had no use for the tv/video equipment, but it's there if you want it. Allison also provided a local cell phone, which came in handy because my carrier (Verizon) had no service there. The outdoor bed, bathroom and kitchen were my favorite things, besides the bananaquits Allison has trained to eat out of your hand. Allison was the consummate host, leading me from Cruz Bay to Coral Bay, stopping along the way to point out premium views, and then up the steep, rough hill to the house in my first-ever 4WD adventure. (I loved the drive after my virgin ascent--very proud of myself every time I conquered it.) She picked up my grocery order before meeting me, and helped me carry it up those infamous 44 steps--which, rather than a hassle, were a great way to enforce a bit of exercise, which made me feel productive and healthy on days when I otherwise just happily lazed around. On get-up-and-go days, it was lovely to be located smack dab on the Johnny Horne Trail. Allison was also a godsend when my travel was screwed up on my way down--she was so understanding about the stress the situation created, which helped me let it go; she arranged my stop-gap accommodations in St. Thomas; and gave very helpful advice for the hours I was stuck there. In short, if I ever return to the Virgin Islands, this is without a doubt where I will stay. I will arrange my travel dates so that I can get it, because no matter how many other great places to stay there may be, I found my home at this house.
