Super Sweet Dreams

5 of 5
This villa is lovely and a bit funky! Beautiful local granite/stone walls partially inside and out are charming but make the interior spaces very dark and the lighting in the living area at night is VERY dim, making reading there almost impossible. The deck is a wonderful place to hang out with a nice view over Chocolate Hole and sunsets over St. Thomas, but watch for very slippery tile floors inside and out when wet. Kitchen was very well-stocked except for a few necessary things: there is no icemaker and no ice cube trays to make ice (with purchased water); no dish drainer and no knife sharpener, all of which are needed. The gas grill was used nightly and it really could use new burner deflectors and grill grates. The owners provided a lovely supply of deli provisions which was a wonderful welcoming gift. The hot tub looks brand new and was perfect at the end of the day. The owners had taken great care in labeling light switches in the house which was really necessary as they weren't intuitive. The "funky" description of the house arises from the location of a first floor back bathroom consisting of 2 sinks and a toilet, completely unable to be shut off from the rest of the first floor! No door separates this area from the main hallway! There is, however, another full bathroom in the hallway with a nice, big, open stone-walled shower, sink and toilet. The master bedroom is upstairs with a king size bed and a very small powder room - no shower or tub. There is a very nice washer and dryer on the lower level deck, along with beach chairs, umbrella, coolers, etc. There is a separate "apartment" in the lower level of the house that can only be reached by going through the living room of the house, then outside the house onto the deck and down a flight of stairs. The only entrance is through sliding glass doors. It consists of a living area, kitchen, queen bedroom and bathroom. It is being newly renovated. The drive up to the house will be daunting for those not used to St. John properties! Iguana Rd. is a steep, rocky, and rough incline. You need at 4wd vehicle; the driveway to the house itself is steeply sloped down. We were fortunate to be able to move our belongings into the house early in the day while the cleaning crew was there. However, we had a very cursory orientation to the house by the property manager who belatedly told us he was in a hurry to orient other renters in their houses and left us kind of abruptly.

As Good As It Gets

5 of 5
The Grandview on St. John is a magical home base for snorkeling, sailing, lounging in the saltwater pool or just unwinding to the gentle breezes on the deck with a glass of wine as you soak in a beautiful sunset. It is here that the Grandview lives up to it’s name, a quiet neighborhood looking down on the twinkling harbor of sailboats with west facing island views all the way to St. Thomas - incredible. The home is well laid out with a spacious great room for gatherings, but private bedrooms on either side for optimal sleeping. Air conditioning and sleep number beds make for a peaceful nights recovery from the day’s activities. There is also a flat unpaved entry road away from traffic for morning exercise walks, a rarity on this hilly island. The Owners stopped by to make sure all was in order for our stay and even took us to dinner at one of their secret spots, the Water Front Bistro; delicious. The highlight of our trip was a visit with the staff of the archeological museum at Cinnamon Bay to learn about the rich history of the Taino Culture of the Caribbean. There are many magical adventures to be found on St. John, far too many for one visit, so we will definitely be back at the Grandview. And as a writer, I may just have discovered the location for my next award wining mystery novel…

Relax with Great Views!

5 of 5
My husband and I recently met our daughter, who lives in Tortola, at Odessa for a week vacation. The home was very comfortable, has a great pool and hot tub, and fantastic ocean views with breezes! We loved the outdoor eating area, the gas grill was very convenient, and the location fantastic! We were met at the ferry dock with our rental Jeep from Aqua Blue Rentals. The sisters there were very helpful and answered ALL our questions. A housekeeper checked on us as well as the pool maintenance guy. The pool was crystal clear and great to relax in after a day visiting a beach on St. John. Loved the home!!!
