Perfection in Vermont

5 of 5
Late summer 2014 marked our sixth visit to Mettawee. Our first trip (Spring 2011) was perfect, and yet somehow this vacation home keeps getting better. The season we haven’t experienced is winter, though it’s fun imagining returning from the slopes to a relaxing dip in the heated pool and to the cozy comfort of the family room’s wood-burning stove. We have still to explore all the extraordinary spots that are close enough for day trips. (If the weather is right, toss bathing suits into the car: you might happen upon an inviting swimming hole. Or just head directly to Grout Pond for hiking and swimming.) Winding roads through venerable forests suddenly open onto amazing vistas, then creep back into the woods and twist along streams. Pierce’s country grocery store in Shrewsbury has become our go-to for local fare, as well as a farm that is just down the road from Mettawee. With each visit, we enjoy discovering the changes to this vacation home. Whether it is a smart-looking sink in the half bath, a new sofa in the family room, a large wall-mounted flat screen (w/disc player) in the master suite, or new pool toys, Charles, the owner, is ever-mindful of keeping Mettawee contemporary and comfortable. We look forward to our next visit.

large rental for a large crowd

4 of 5
this is our second stay at cug's place and we enjoyed our thanksgiving break with some much needed family time. we had 11 adults and 4 children, with plenty of bedrooms and the kids sleeping loft. the fireplace in the living room made for a nice cozy atmosphere. we cooked up a storm,(we did bring crockpot and a couple roasters we knew we would need) but there are plenty of dishes/glasses and cookware. skiing at area resorts was enjoyed by some while others went on walks and sledding. there is a pool table/hot tub and sauna in the lower level as well as another tv if needed. you are supplied w/ sheets/blankets but bring your own bath towels, there is a washer/dryer available in the lower level as well. the living room has a huge sectional and the dining table seats at least 10, and a great place for board games/cards. the only issue we had was not being able to call out from the phone during an emergency and very limited cell service.we enjoyed our time and would definitely stay here again

Delightful Destination

4 of 5
Stayed here in October with friends. Beautiful house, great accommodations for a group. Private setting, walking distance to downtown Manchester Center which has something for everyone--gorgeous historic main street, hundreds of upscale outlets, antique stores, a not-to-be-missed bookstore, great restaurants, inspiring yarn shop, hiking, beautiful fall colors, and lots we didn’t have time to explore. Near Stratton, Bromley, Magic Mountain skiing for a winter visit. Area offeres something for any time of year. House is huge, plenty of elbow room for a crowd. Large kitchen and living room where all could gather, fireplaces in and outdoors, hot tub, grill, big yard. Check out photos of the bedrooms - range from elegant master suite with steam shower to bunk beds and a pull out sleeper downstairs, but each with dedicated bath, so our gang agreed to draw straws. A.M. Boomer backs on a bunk bed and sleeper couch were the only non-5 star comments among 10 guests; wine under the stars in the hot tub helped immensely. Despite detailed instruction sheets, 15 years of combined advanced degrees couldn’t master the built-in coffee maker (there were also simpler versions), the TV, or several light switches, but the owner was responsive and good natured with queries. Made for lots of laughs. Thanks, Jon!
