beautiful condo, & site

5 of 5
well designed condo unit, just enough space for about 4, max 5, I would say, had 4 in good comfort. Living room raised ceilings, lots of light & view of mountain few miles away. At Stowe, 98% of lodging few miles from slope, you can pay triple for new lodgings at stowe base, but I know you will not get this much space & convenience. 2 bedrooms upstairs with windows, skylights, patio glass doors; small patio with view off large master bedroom, king bed, best of quilts, pillows, mattresses. 2bathrooms are smallish but neat, you're not THAT spoiled are you? XC skiing several types quite near. Hot tub near condo is clean & large, room for 4-5, jets will knock your suit off. Kitchen top quality everything you could need & roomy. Fireplace is excellent, free dry wood & kindling supplied right outside door, ground level wrap-around deck is roomy with chairs available. I have been a zillion places; this one is really good. Very short drive to multiple dining, grocery spots, couple of miles easy drive to town, which is no booming metropolis. A little snow, and this lodging will keep you, make you glad.

Great place to stay if skiing at Snow.

5 of 5
We were looking for a dog-friendly place to stay while we did some early-season skiing at Stowe. This place was just what we needed. Super convenient location - right next to a grocery store where we picked up water and Gatorade each morning before heading to the hill - and the parking spot is RIGHT in front of the entrance to the ground floor unit. The kitchen is stocked with everything you could need in terms of dishes, glasses, cutlery, etc., even pantry items. There is a heat lamp in the bathroom which we really appreciated (it was REALLY cold when we first arrived, so spent some time standing under it while we waited for the place to heat up - which happened pretty quickly). The bed was comfy and we slept well. Our dog loved running around in the snow in the little courtyard that's in front of the entrance. You can also easily walk to the cute downtown/stores easily from here. We had no problems. There were some loud footstep noises from the unit above in the early mornings (probably people leaving to go skiing), but it didn't last long. We had a little trouble getting the front door to lock all the way - but quickly got the technique down : ) All in all, we would suggest the place to others and would stay there again!

Peace and adventure entwined in a 'celtic knot'

5 of 5
Meeting up with friends, I drove from Washington DC, passing through the bustle of New York City. As I drove further north, the falls colors greeted me in vibrant hues of yellow, orange and red. Upon entering Stowe I found a charming town center, passing by the local dairy farm on my left, and soon thereafter a goat creamery on my right. My expectations were running high as I approached Stone Cottage and they were more than met. Stone cottage has been fully renovated, with an exceptional kitchen. Lots of space for friends to gather, and yet nooks to read a good book or to just look out as nature envelopes you on all sides. Cross-country skiing is right outside the door. With great downhill slopes very near by. Biking and hiking are a must. Be sure to bring good boots. A short drive away, there is an exceptional interpretative trail taking you all the way down into Sterling Gorge. And the drive approaching the slopes is breathtaking, from the waterfalls, to the tight winding road, to the boulders unexpectedly appearing out of nowhere. There is a grocery store conveniently located nearby for all the basics, but I would strongly recommended going into town and getting some of the excellent Stowe cheeses, milk, fresh baked breads, muffins etc. And I should not forget to mention the assorted selection of restaurants and cafes. Local farmers market on Sunday is worth the visit. My stay was far to short and I look forward to returning for more exploring.
