A Road Less Traveled

5 of 5
I hesitate to write this review, for if I do the next time I wish to return to what feels like my little retreat, I will be unable to for you will have arrived, in droves. This space has profound appeal even for somebody who did not grow up Catholic, exponentially multiplied appeal for somebody who did. It is a space that has been carefully, lovingly transformed into a space that once held an altar, pews for listening, a confessional, and a choir loft, into a kitchen where the bread is consecrated, an open inviting table with and an L shaped sofa and chairs for listening to each other, the old confessional has been turned into a bathroom and laundry for cleansing, and upstairs, in the choir loft is one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in in my life. It wasn't just the bed, but the selection of linens, comforter, and pillows made it a treat to climb into bed. They literally received and ensconced us. We sang from that choir loft, all right, more fully, perhaps than was done back in the day. The entire experience was spectacular. The space is filled with the art of Natalie Blake, whose studio is just down the road-a thing of wonder and amazement. I found myself standing and looking not only at the space itself, but the way it was filled and attended to. It reflected the soul of an artist, a thinker, a lover, a healer. The invitation in this space is to all of these things. Come with a group of friends and lovers (I did), or come alone (I did), the sanctuary invites, embraces, and warms either reality. Once you are there you will not want to leave. You will wonder why you have to live in the city or the suburbs, you will want a big ole' open kitchen and even go hunting to find that coffee maker and wonder how you can get a mug collection like that, outside of being a master potter. There are so many small details about this sacred space, there are not enough words to describe. You have to be the right person to appreciate it. You will know you are the right person if you liked reading this.

Nice place - great location

4 of 5
The place was nice and cozy, well equipped, and the good supply of wood was plenty to keep the fireplace going the whole time we were there. The king bed was nice and comfy, and Julia and David were very friendly and helpful. The trail access right out the door is great. We enjoyed our stay very much and had a great time in Brattleboro.

Beautiful Property, Tranquil and Relaxing

5 of 5
Our family stayed in this beautiful home in the summer. We enjoyed walks, going to a nearby lake, picking up fresh eggs from a nearby farm and homemade pies from a nearby market. Our kids loved swinging on the tree swing - a lot of great photo ops as well. The nearby town of Brattleboro is also cute with a lot of unique finds. Being on this property was very relaxing and allowed us to get away from it all. It felt like a step back in time while upgraded with beautiful furnishings and amenities, with a gorgeous cook's kitchen. We'd like to return someday in different seasons -- winter for nearby skiing and fall for leaf peeping. Thank you to the owners too - they were super easy to deal with and felt like old friends.
