This place is a score. If you are lucky enough to stumble across this rental then you are in for a real treat. We stayed here during during Thanksgiving/Winter Storm Cato and were lucky enough to enjoy 14 inches of fresh snow. The property is prepared for just about any kind of scenario and Mike is too. Mike was attentive and willing to help when needed but never overbearing. Super kid and pet friendly with plenty of room to bound. The pictures do not really do it any justice and the amenities are all that you would want. Washer and dryer are a bonus and the water is HOT! The tap water is also very delicious. Plenty of room for gear and luggage. Sleeping accommodations are very comfortable. Easy and beautiful drive to Stratton Mountain Resort and an even easier drive to Brattleboro, VT. The roads are well taken care of and were never an issue getting out to enjoy the powder. However, in our opinion, we would recommend having a 4WD (and we did) but it not absolutely necessary. The carport was also a huge bonus as it was nice not to have to dig out and clean the car off. We suggest that you bring your groceries with you if you are accustomed to a certain diet or organic food. Groceries are there but do not have the best of selections. Bring a robe because the walk to the hot tub can be pretty brisk if you forget one! Make sure to shower off to get rid perfumes, lotions and shampoos before entering hot tub and do not dunk your head in the water. This will make the hot tub stinky and there is no avoiding it! Again, this place is a treat and we were lucky enough to stumble across it. Thanks again Mike!!

Peace and adventure entwined in a 'celtic knot'

5 of 5
Meeting up with friends, I drove from Washington DC, passing through the bustle of New York City. As I drove further north, the falls colors greeted me in vibrant hues of yellow, orange and red. Upon entering Stowe I found a charming town center, passing by the local dairy farm on my left, and soon thereafter a goat creamery on my right. My expectations were running high as I approached Stone Cottage and they were more than met. Stone cottage has been fully renovated, with an exceptional kitchen. Lots of space for friends to gather, and yet nooks to read a good book or to just look out as nature envelopes you on all sides. Cross-country skiing is right outside the door. With great downhill slopes very near by. Biking and hiking are a must. Be sure to bring good boots. A short drive away, there is an exceptional interpretative trail taking you all the way down into Sterling Gorge. And the drive approaching the slopes is breathtaking, from the waterfalls, to the tight winding road, to the boulders unexpectedly appearing out of nowhere. There is a grocery store conveniently located nearby for all the basics, but I would strongly recommended going into town and getting some of the excellent Stowe cheeses, milk, fresh baked breads, muffins etc. And I should not forget to mention the assorted selection of restaurants and cafes. Local farmers market on Sunday is worth the visit. My stay was far to short and I look forward to returning for more exploring.

Thankful on Thanksgiving!

5 of 5
We flew in from Michigan, collected our two daughters from college and arrived at the GingerHouse on Thanksgiving day. Boy, was I thankful! This cottage was clean, warm and cozy. The fireplace was stocked and ready to light. It had just snowed the night before, so that made it even more beautiful. The town is within walking distance and Stowe Lodge is about a ten minute drive. We skied one day and was happy to come back and relax before heading back into town for a wonderful dinner. Groceries and restaurants are very expensive in Stowe so I would recommend stocking up before arriving. The kitchen has everything you need to cook your own meals. The owner was very nice and helpful. I would recommend the Ginger House to anyone! I can't wait to return.
