Wonderful in every respect!

5 of 5
This house rental was the perfect home base for our family vacation in Shelburne. The house is spacious, thoughtfully appointed, and has plenty of comfortable room inside and out! We stayed here with our four children, who loved running around in the HUGE backyard and rolling down the hills. The neighbors were very kind to us, and Lucas was on top of all matters to ensure our comfort. Charlotte is a pretty and walkable town. We loved walking down to the corner market each morning for coffee (<5 minutes away), and a little farther down the road, the volunteer firefighters waved my kids over for an impromptu tour and told us lots of great things about the town of Charlotte. We also loved exploring the library across the street from the fire dept and, in the opposite direction from town, the winery/blueberry farm. 10 minute drive from Shelburne even during "rush hour" mornings -- Shelburne Farm and Inn, Shelburne Museum, terrific restaurants (Rustic Root), great supermarket delis for surprisingly good picnic fare, Flying Pig bookstore, coffee shop, etc. We were also very close to the ferry for a nice little half-day walk in a charmingly preserved small town in NY State. Burlington and its restaurants/shops/markets were convenient, as well. Thank you, Lucas, for your hospitality!

An magnificent location by the lack Champlain.

4 of 5
The location of the property is magnificent, right on the lack with no obstructions or neighbors in view. The pictures from the add do not give real justice to the beauty of this charming cottage. The patio is right on the water and we had a great time watching the sun set each night (right before to be devoured by mosquitoes - bring mosquitoes repellent). The house is extremely clean and a pleasure to stay in. We miss it! However the price is a little high for not having any bicycles, kayaks, hammock, or even long chairs available. There are no place to rent any around without driving miles. The rental includes a pedal boat but the lack has waves and it is hard to go anywhere. The island doesn't offer much around and we had to drive to get anywhere. There were 4 of us and we would have enjoyed letting go of the car for a few days and just bicycle around instead or lounge in long chairs at our rental. We could swim from our rental shore but there were a better place to swim at a send beach a few miles away (car ride was necessary though). Wish there were an island calendar of events around the house so that we wouldn't have missed the only once a week dancing event at the tea house next to us. But we missed it as we arrived on the Saturday night and we didn't know it was happening the next day. We didn't see our host very much but only once. She appears to be a kind person and responded immediately to any questions we had by phone or email. When we informed her that the propane tank from he grill was empty she came immediately to replace it so that we could go ahead and cook outside while enjoying the great view. We really appreciated her quick responses. I would recommend this rental but bring bicycles, kayaks... or anything you think you would enjoy practicing beside watching the sun set and listening to the sound of the waves.

Lovely and comfortable cottage in the woods

5 of 5
Our family had a great week in late July and early August staying in this lovely cottage set in woods near Stowe. Apparently originally built as a two-bedroom home, it was doubled in size to add a master suite with stain-glass windows, fireplace and jacuzzi, a parlor/sunroom, a laundry room, etc. The kitchen is all new but the feel with slate floors and fireplace is rustic and cozy. The back yard is set up for a barbeque and picnic. The town of Stowe is charming with good restaurants and markets. We found a lot to do nearby including two remarkable waterfalls with pools for swimming (Brighton Falls off of Route 108 and another two miles north of Stowe off of Route 100); hiking to Sterling Pond from Smugglers’ Notch; biking along the trail that straddles Route 108; poking around craft shops, cafes, and clothes stores; the obligatory Ben and Jerry’s tour; and it only took about 40 minutes to get to Burlington for a ferry ride and then another 15 minutes to get to Shelburne Farms with lots of kids’ activities.
